She knew she wasn't going to make it, who would she be kidding thinking otherwise? Her chest was aching, the more she ran the more she coughed, but something was stopping her from giving up completely. Well, somebodies. The two boys running in front of her, her older brothers, Yakko and Wakko. They hadn't given up on her once this entire trip, but was it because they knew there was a way to protect her? Keep her safe? Or was it merely because they were trying to prolong the inevitable last goodbye? Either way, it made what she was going through a bit more bearable. Maybe it was realistic for them to keep fighting it, she'll survive after all.
"STOP THEM! FIRE! FIRE!" The king's words rang through her ears as if he was running right beside her. They were still so faraway from the star. If she could just slow down enough to get most, if not all, of the oncoming attack... Yakko and Wakko could move on. They could make a wish for the town to get better. More jobs could open up, more shops, more goodies, yeah. That'd be wonderful. Almost smiling to herself, Dot slowed her running down just a tad so she was behind them like she had when she said she couldn't make it. She kept running, though she heard the canon getting closer, and closer, and closer, until...
The canon made perfect contact with the back of her, getting Dot flying through the air in a matter of seconds. At least when she landed she landed on the nice snow covered ground, but that didn't make things any easier for her. The attack had only made her cough worse, the youngest Warner could now feel a huge pain at the front and back of her head. It had been a tough week.
"NO!" Their voices cried out, two sets of feet running towards her at full speed. Yakko and Wakko fell to their knees at her side as she opened her eyes slightly. She could really only see her eyelids, too weak to open her eyes the entire way anymore. Their surroundings had grown silent, the only sounds heard being their uneven breathing.
"Dot.... can you hear me?" Asked Yakko, his voice soft, caring, sincere.
He and Wakko were going to be just fine. If he cared this much she could only imagine what he would wish for once they got this out of the way. Dot reached out for the hand her brother was resting on her head and smiled a bit, opening her eyes a little, just for her siblings.
"Tell me the story..." One last time. Let's make it count.
"The story about mom and dad. Tell me... one last time-"
Knowing that only in a short amount of time she'd be resting for the rest of her life, Dot squeezed his hand and started the story herself.
"Once upon a time a brave knight married a beautiful princess and they had two sons... but they wanted a daughter too.... so they planted a garden...."
"...And out of the prettiest flower came?"
"So mom and dad took you home... and every night at bedtime... they'd come in and say... who's the cutest girl? And you'd say?"
"And then they'd ask how'd you ever get so cute, and you'd say?"
"...I was born that way."
"Then they'd ask, can we call you Dotty? And you'd say?"
"No. Just Dot. Call me Dotty.. and you... die."
She fell limp in her brother's arms, her eyes shutting for the very last time as her head turned away from Yakko.
I know the two of you will make the right choice. Do it... do it for the town.
