My parents came to visit. It was the first time I had seen them in eight months. I went to get my hair cut and the hairdresser was gay. I'm guessing that's why my dad decided to wait in the car. He was so afraid of a gay man he sacrificed time with his daughter to avoid him.

We talked in large group about tattoos and pants sagging and piercings and how that wasn't in alignment with what we say we want.

Then we talked about thongs. Mr. Shane had the guys stand up and say if they could always tell whether a girl is wearing a thong. Most of them said always or almost always. Then they gave their one word opinions of girls wear them which included "sexy", "slut", "whore", "mine" or just "sex"

Ugh... This is so disgusting. Again this was in the seminar Principles and Mr.Shane was the seminar facilitator. Why the fuck is it relevant what a bunch of teenage boys think about thongs? Are we supposed to live our lives by what teenage boys think?! Why did the program care if we wore thongs or not?! What the hell does that have to do with helping traumatized children?!

Just as alarming was my reaction to this slut-shaming:

"I went in there totally resolved to stay unmoved on the subject. But I realized I have 10 months to get my crap together or I'll be homeless and if giving up this one thing will help me stay on track I'm willing to give it a try."

They somehow made me believe that wearing normal underwear was crucial to my recovery. Un-fucking-believable. . .

Jolyn bites her lip and makes it bleed and then spits the blood into tissues. It makes my stomach turn. Shannon and Hayley have horrible cuts all over their arms and that freaks me out. Shannon tole me last night she was gonna shove cats down my throat until it was full of paper cuts.

First of all, "cat" was short for "category" and category referred to the demerit system the school used. Each offense was categorized one through five. Five being the worst. Every time we got one we had to fill out a form. So this girl was threatening to shove those down my throat. Not literal cats :)

After my epic slut-shaming by Ron, he put me on something called mama. The mama was in charge of watching staff buddies (high risk students). If they wanted permission to move, they had to ask me. It was a punishment and a test to see if I was "really committed to the program" since I was 18 and could leave whenever I wanted.

At one point, this girl Jolyn wanted a new crayon. I told her she couldn't have one. So she bit off part of her lip and spit it at me. Staff told me to give her a trash bag to spit the blood into.

Ron came to our group and raked me over the coals. I got really mad. He said "Oh, you're 18? You look like you're 16. There's some feedback for you." and "I bet you've had more sex partners in the last two years than your mom's had in her whole life."
