WWE Report: WrestleMania As Of Now
It’s known as the the Granddaddy of them all. the biggest show of the year in professional wrestling is almost among us. WrestleMania 28 will come to us on April 1st, 2012 from Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Flordia. There are currently 5 matches confirmed to take place at the spectacle this year. One of the most exciting aspects about WrestleMania is the speculation that goes into the matches. Who may be the champion by Mania’, who may be a contender to be in a main event, who will rise up to get themselves a spot on the event and much more similar. We have the potential to have a very good WrestleMania among us, and we only have 5 matches thus far.
The match everyone knows was going to happen since the day after WrestleMania last year will more than likely be the main event. After screwing John Cena out of the WWE Championship in the main event last year against the Miz, The Rock will go one, on one, with John Cena, in a match that was set in stone a full year in advance. This move was something unprecedented and probably will never have a successor in. There was concern about how the WWE would handle a match that is set so far in advanced, as it may had fallen at times, I feel that the build has been increasing in quality ever since it was first announced.
As I’m sure we all expected, Triple H and The Undertaker will have their rematch from last year’s WrestleMania. In general, this is their 3rd WrestleMania match up, the first being in 2001 at WM X-7. I know a lot of people, me included, were crapping on the idea of it after their match yesterday being a flop like it was. Le’ts not forget the 2 years before, that Undertaker had two of his best matches not only in Mania history, but of all time with HBK. After going one on one again in a rematch, one wondered if they could follow it up, and we can clearly say it did. When Triple H/Undertaker was announced last year, I was hopeful, but the match ended up being lackluster and uninspired. This year, I have mentioned on many occasion the build has to go well and right. The match was made into a Hell In A Cell match not too long ago and HBK was made the referee, so the match has SOME potential but not much. The concept of the build is nice, for Triple H being called out on his claims that he’ll end it, and now he has to prove it.
World Champions Daniel Bryan and CM Punk will both be defending their championship titles against Sheamus and Chris Jericho, respectively. Daniel Bryan won the World title at the TLC pay per view moments after Big Show defeated Mark Henry. Once Chris Jericho officially made his return, it would end up being obvious that he would go on to challenge CM Punk for the WWE title. What I’m sure we’ve all heard by now, is how Bryan/Sheamus was to take place last year but pushed to the pre-show, and now it’s the main event. The reason it keeps on being brought up, is because Daniel Bryan has consistently been one of the better wrestlers of this generation. Sheamus has just been improving since his arrival, I’ve always been a fan of his physical style and has gotten a lot of fan support behind him as of late. These two deserved a spot in WrestleMania last year and was disappointed to hear it pushed back. Now they got their pay back by being one of the main events. Chris Jericho HAD to come back and hog a spot that is really not needed to have him in. While they may actually have better chemistry than we realize, it’s just a match that is being shit on right now mainly because Jericho is in it. The build needs to continue to show Jericho’s confidence, especially after beating him and maybe the match will have something to live up to.
It was just announced the week before Cody Rhodes will be putting up his Intercontinental Title against Big Show. For so much of the past couple years, we have seen the Big Show have horrible matches and be completely out of shape. It is now 2012, and Show is actually is great shape, and is a character that people can really get behind. This is the year of Cody Rhodes. Out of all the people who claim to be aspiring and on the rise, Cody Rhodes is the one to definitely watch out for. Let’s face it, until Dolph Ziggler gets rid of that stupid music, that stupid tag partner, that stupid blonde hair and that stupid shirt out of his tights, he will not be taken seriously, it’s Cody Rhodes who is genuinely light years ahead of him. He will be in the main event spot by the end of the year and The Big Show is someone who based on the difference in style, can be actually a good match up. After last year’s match of the night (arguably) with Rey Mysterio, I’m looking forward to another great showing for Cody this year.
The card, as it stands, is already shaping up to have potential. While not confirmed officially, it’s safe to say that Kane will battle Randy Orton. These two should also have a good showing, I believe Kane has become recharged with his mask back on. Randy has been breaking out the past couple years more than ever before. Unfortunately, the Miz was in the main event of the spectacle last year. As much as it pains me to say or even think about it, we have to face it, the Miz will get a spot on the card. We can fortunately hope it’s in a match early on the card. A divas match is always rumored to happen between Beth Phoenix and Natalya, but with Kharma making her return at the Royal Rumble, Kharma and Beth doesn’t seem like a bad idea, to give Beth the competition she is looking for. Also scheduled/rumored is a 3-on-3 tag match between the GM’s teams to determine the GM of both shows. Teddy Long and John Laurinaitis should be making the match official soon and the competitors soon as well. With whats on tap already and what is rumored, it could be a WrestleMania to genuinely look forward to.
