Whoever (would have) Saved You: Epilogue
It's becoming a theme that I'll write some significantly heavy scenes, slowly deepening the mystery of just What Is Happening To Ventus, and then suddenly Roxas looms in from the shadows and everyone goes batshit insane.
Whoever (would have) Saved You: Epilogue
It's like before, right? Exactly how it started.
And with one comment sharing Whoever (would have) Saved You is entirely justified in every way.
Hi, Birdie <33 4, 32 and 39!
Hi Shuuru <333
fanfic asks!
4. Do you save your 'cut scenes' from your fics? (Want to share one?)
I do sometimes! I also save like, initial snippets from when I've written ahead, so they're not necessarily 'cut' so much as I wildly change them to fit when I get up to said scene.
But here have a 'cut' scene from chapter 6 of Whoever (would have) Saved You:
It’s Heckin’ Wimdy: We need to find a new island. Darkness Becomes Me: There’s nothing wrong with the island, Ventus. Ventus barely has to lift his arm before taking a photo from his prone position across the length of his glider. Maybe it isn’t the most photogenic piece, but whatever. That his shoe takes up the top right half of the screen is a feature, not a flaw. It doesn’t hide any of the destruction they’d caused today. It’s Heckin’ Wimdy: Half of it is underwater. Darkness Becomes Me: You set a tornado off over the ocean. What did you expect? Ventus takes a moment to chew on his lower lip, because– yeah, he did do that. Vanitas had been egging him on all fight to show him what a real Master can do; he might’ve gotten carried away, a little. The water spouts had been pretty impressive, though, impressive enough to shut his Darkness up. That doesn't make him responsible for this. It’s Heckin’ Wimdy: The other half is practically made of glass. I want to spar with you, not the island. Darkness Becomes Me: Skill issue.
32. Out of all your fics, what is your favorite title?
I am really endeared to the title of my Leonitas oneshot at the moment- Falling for You (on the cold hard ground, blood on my teeth). Obviously WwhSY is right up there, but also Knot the Plan is the funniest.
39. Do you have a preferred writing drink/snack?
I drink oodles of tea whenever I'm writing. Absolute buckets of the stuff. Considering that when I get in the zone I'll be writing for 12 hours straight a lot of the time, this tracks.
I've mentioned before that when I plot stories I make a "Things I Want" list and some of them are just like, they're obvious. The very first point is the scene that inspired the whole damn story
Because it's kind of like, over, I can finally share the character summaries I wrote when I first started planning out Whoever (would have) Saved You. So I'm gonna. Because aligning character development with quotes is fun.
VENTUS: is living out his dream, yes. And he’s still childish and stubbornly optimistic and kind. He’s gonna learn that sometimes this isn’t what people need though, including himself. And that some of his kindness isn’t just about nature, it’s spite. Bleeds kindness into the world. Claws and bites until his knuckles are bloody and his teeth are stained pink to ensure that others get happiness and belonging that he was denied. “The trauma made you kind”, fuck that. I am kind because I cannot allow anyone to go through what I did. I am soft because I chose to be. Trauma made me scared, angry, and vulnerable. I made myself kind.
VANITAS: is actually doing reasonably well for someone who has had little to no help in learning how to not self-destruct. He sees himself in kids the same age Ventus was when Xehanort tore them apart and sees Xehanort in the people who hurt them and boy golly, he might not be dealing with that in the best way but he is absolutely dealing with it. Be the person you needed when you were a child.
SORA: is the most reluctant to act. This isn’t because he doesn’t want to help, but he’s tired. He’s the boy who was convinced by his best friend that seeing all the worlds would be the most amazing thing in the world and then lost everything, killed people, almost killed himself, lost everything again, lost a year of his life in a coma, had to adjust to puberty without having lived it, learned a person was un-existed to bring him back and could feel how much pain he was in from that, watched one best friend get kidnapped multiple times, watched Axel die, killed more people, watched Riku almost die, watched everyone die, died himself, defeated the greatest evil mastermind of multiple centuries, and is just pretty done. He has his home back. He doesn’t want to be the hero anymore. I dream of never being called resilient again in my life. I’m exhausted by strength. I want support. I want softness. I want ease. I want to be amongst kin. Not patted on the back for how well I take a hit. Or for how many. Being able to endure something does not equal an obligation to withstand it.
ROXAS: Has not looked at or spoken to Ansem the Wise since coming back. Refused his mark of mastery after spending years struggling to find himself and realizing that he didn’t HAVE to keep creating himself around the meaning other people wanted to impose on him. Still loves his keyblade, still does missions with Xion. Is still bitter and angry whenever he needs to be, but his identity is sure and he reaches out to people he sees feeling as invisible and broken as he used to. And the thing that blows my mind, is that without a second’s thought, a moment’s regret, a minute’s hesitation, you did all of that; to me. I am not violent. I am not malicious. I am a result.
XION: Is a Keyblade Master and is very happy with herself now, the good bean. Had her own self-identity issues to deal with and honestly, she and Roxas dealt with most of their issues together. The two of them have a Very Strong Bond. Her nightmares are over and her, as a person, is probably the most settled of the Sea Salt Trio. No one will know the violence it took to become this gentle.
RIKU: Married to Kairi and Sora because fuck you that’s why. Of every character he’s the one who got the most personal development and he is so much more sure of himself than he used to be. Spends what time he isn’t at home helping Aqua and Terra with the newest generation of keyblade wielders, making sure to keep breaking down the stigmas around darkness that the previous generation are still holding onto. Before Yen Sid passes he makes Riku the Master of the Mysterious Tower to the shock of no one but himself. Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light; I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.
KAIRI: KH1 sass gonna be shining through a lot more. Also a Keyblade Master and probably one of the ones Ven has spent the most time with because they both love their missions and just sometimes venturing somewhere spontaneously. She has very little patience for people trying to baby her or even remotely hinting that she should stay behind/stay safe. Watch me. I will go to my own Sun. And if I am burned by its fire, I will fly on scorched wings.
NAMINE: Not a keyblade wielder and is absolutely fine with not having anything to do with that mess. She hurt a lot of people and has had to overcome the feeling of being a monster. She runs an art school in Radiant Garden. Kind people are not born that way, they do not stumble into it. Kind people are forged in fire and darkness and exploding stars…they have steel cores. Throw a punch and you’re going to break your hand.
AQUA: Has been damaged. Badly. She doesn’t leave the Land of Departure after getting back, except for very rare occasions. She has no real inclination to go anywhere. She’s still struggling to be the Master that her new students need and the Master her own Master tried to make her to be. Terra helps, as does Riku. Sometimes she slips up. She is incredibly resilient and not happy that Ventus elects to sideline her, but acknowledges that even she’s not sure what she’d do if she was the one to catch up to Vanitas first. The kids love her. I will experience many things, and I will hit rock bottom again and again. Again and again I will suffer; again and again I will get back on my feet. I will not be defeated. I won’t let my spirit be destroyed.
TERRA: Also just had… a lot happen. So much. He’s even quieter than he was before everything started, and spends a lot of time meditating when he isn’t helping Aqua or Riku take care of the apprentices. Only became a master after studying under Riku for four more years. He’s more settled in himself but will never really have much trust in himself to handle dire situations appropriately. Wants nothing to do with Vanitas, because he wants nothing to do with reminders of Xehanort. Has come to terms with Eraqus but still doesn’t like talking about him. ‘kids these days have it easy’ that’s the point that’s the point that’s the whole point we’re here to make it better for whoever comes after you sad selfish self absorbed puddle of wank. Children aren’t colouring books. You don’t get to fill them up with your favorite colors.
