Calum on mattmcguiredrums IG story
I could write a novel about the WWJ concert I went to, but I’ll do my best to keep it short and sweet.
* The guys were amazing. Their show was energetic and I felt the songs they played provided a good representation of where the started and where they are now. I honestly think their music has so much more depth to it now.
* It did feel a bit rushed. I attribute this to the boys needing to keep to the schedule so TCS could come out at the appropriate time. I know they tend to talk a bit more during their shows - we didn’t get a lot of that due to the limited time they were on stage.
* Luke’s voice was a tad bit strained. He admitted to the crowd that they had gone to a “country bar” while in Austin the night before and he screamed his lungs out. He still sounded great.
* Watching Ashton drum was mesmerizing.
* Calum took a bit longer while introducing Ashton. :)
* I was sad that I didn’t get to see Luke wear either pair of his glitter boots. :(
* I did see Andy moving about the stage providing all with the content we love.
* There were definitely more Cashton moments on stage than Muke. I think the lack of Muke content can be directly related to the presence of Crusty. Michael tends to stay to his own side when she’s around. Luke can’t help but move around the stage though. He frequently went over to Calum or Ashton but every so often, he couldn’t help himself and he gravitated to Michael.
* Lennon Stella - I had only heard one song by her prior to this show and it was the TCS collab. Honestly, she reminded me of a taller, blonde Messy. The way she moved on stage was similar, her hand movements, the long hair, etc. all gave me Messy-vibes. She also has a breathy voice (which is not my favorite in a female artist) but her voice is stronger than Messy’s if that makes sense. That being said, Lennon is 20 years old and out there working it every night. She was confident and clearly loved what she was doing. She is not riding anyone’s coattails. She and Luke wore matching shiny, leather pants.
* TCS - over glorified DJs. That pretty much sums it up. Their set was INCREDIBLY loud. I could feel my internal organs vibrating. All I needed was copious amounts of alcohol and lots of sweat people dancing around me and I would have sworn I was at a rave. Matt McGuire was amazing. He’s an incredibly talented drummer. WDYL with the boys was great. After that song was over, I left. I didn’t feel the need to stay for the rest of TCS’ set.
* All in all, I had a great time. There were many empty seats in the arena. The crowd filled in quite a bit between Lennon and 5SOS but there was not a noticeable change between 5SOS and TCS. I think the boys drew the biggest part of the crowd. I will definitely go see them next year when they are on their own tour.
Okay, I didn’t do the best job at keeping it short but there you have it!
