It’s always a good sign when you’re singing along on the first listen, and that’s just what I’m doing during the refrain of Where We Lay Our Heads latest, Keanu Leaves. I’m also frying bacon and having a dance but that’s not important.
Keanu Leaves is a modern tale of unrequited love with fabulous hair and faded Chucks. WWLOH use their varied influences and instrumentation skillfully to create an easily accessible blend of folk themed post rock, which is often tried and not always executed particularly well. In this case though the mix is just right, and is complemented by vocals that are both confident and awkward at the same time. LOL I done a oxymoron.
Overall it’s a charming and well crafted little number that creates an angsty, tense, hormonal, teen-crush feel from the get go, which then releases effortlessly into simple, spacious choruses.
And there’s that refrain too, which I’m pretty sure I’ll still be humming in a week or two. Thanks for that.
