ari is a wonderful bean and I will scream it from the rooftops!!!
I swear I'm not a creep, but your smile is just really pretty.
You liked thinking you weren't really eye-catching. Sure you had averagely pretty looks that managed to get you a few dates but nothing ever felt like the person was seriously interested in you. It also might have something to do with the fact that nobody ever put as much effort as your secret admirer Woozi did.
Every other week you had an entire page of song lyrics in your locker, your books, your pencil case and once even in your empty water bottle. You'd consider it weird and creepy but the songs the person wrote for you were so heartwarming and beautiful that you'd saved all of them. If only you could find out who it was.
On the other hand, Jihoon had run out of ways to slip you the latest song he had written under his secret name Woozi. He didn't have to worry about you finding out who he is, because besides his friends nobody in school knew of the name. The problem now was that whenever he was close to slipping the page somewhere you could find it, you would always come there at the last moment. He had been trying to encourage himself to just grab his guitar and sing it to you himself for weeks now but every time you came too close, his heart stuttered and he lost the ability to comprehend his own thoughts.
Today was turning out to be another day when you constantly stuck to every place he could slip you the page at, you always had your bag on your shoulder, he couldn't find enough time to slip it into your locker, you had forgotten your pencil case at home and your bottle went missing at home so you were stuck drinking school water.
You knew Jihoon, even thought he was really cute when he unknowingly pouted in class while staring at nothing, or when he wore shirts with sleeves too big and hit his friends with it. Everyone knew him to be small but scary but you just caught him behaving unbelievably cute everytime you looked his way. You had wondered whether other people had seen him do all those things, eating happily during lunch or grinning and slapping Mingyu, his tall friend's arm when he did something funny.
Rubbing the back of his neck, Jihoon approached you in the library, he had seen you go in there with his best friend Wonwoo, both of you talking animatedly. Wonwoo, knowing about Jihoon's crush on you after catching him staring at you during World History with a soft expression, had made it his mission to become friends with you in a way to get you both to become friends so Jihoon would be more comfortable in confessing to you.
Jihoon caught you asleep with Wonwoo quietly studying besides you. Jihoon blushed when Wonwoo grinned at him and whispered to him that you were taking a power nap before you got to work on your assignment for Psychology.
Jihoon smiled widely, he had finally found the perfect moment to slip to paper to you. He leaned across the table and as silently and carefully as he could, pulled your notebook open. Perhaps it was bad timing, or perhaps it was fate, but right that moment you sat up with a jerk and yawned, slapping a hand on your mouth with wide eyes as you caught a frozen Jihoon with wide eyes, clearly holding the same pastel blue paper your secret admirers' notes always came in. Jihoon knew he should have ran the moment you sat up but he couldn't, especially not when your eyes quite literally shined like jewels because of them watering due to your yawn.
Unbeknownst to both of you, Wonwoo had already slipped away from the sight, bored of your staring match since neither of you had grasped reality yet and realized the secret was now out in the open. Lee Jihoon was your secret admirer and you had just caught him red handed. Your heart speeded up in your chest as a deep blush settled in your cheeks the same time Jihoon mumbled out an apology and ran away after leaving the piece of paper, the tips of ears blood red.
I might have gotten a little carried away with a post I saw @wwounu make earlier so uhhhhhh this is the product of that.
One would think that being a cupid would be a good job, you would get to see people fall in love on the daily. It would be such a sweet and wholesome job.
Well that’s if it wasn’t for the whole matchmaking thing.
Wonwoo grumbled as he was given another assignment. They always, always gave him the hard assignments. He knew he was one of the best cupids they had but some of these cases were extremely difficult and tiring. And of course some of them just didn’t deserve it. He had had to match up some truly terrible people before while some wonderful people got passed by. It was all up to the powers that be to decide who’s time it was to get matched but he had to question their choices from time to time. It wasn’t like he was about to go rogue or anything. He wasn’t going to destroy the system, but some days he wanted a little more justice.
It looked like today would be one of those days.
Wonwoo looked up as Seungcheol slide a file across his desk.
“This is going to be a tough one,” he sighed.
“You always give me the tough ones,” Wonwoo grumbled. He opened the file and started to read through it. His eyes narrowed as he read down the page. “Is this correct? It says-”
“Yeah, We’ve tried to match them four times and so far nothing. The first three matches were a bust. The fourth cupid surrendered the case.”
“Cheol, I’ve matched someone after one or two failed attempts, but never four. Is there something wrong with them?”
Seungcheol shook his head. “No one has been able to figure it out, it’s just that nothing seems to stick. Anyway, you’re the best one for the job.”
“Gee thanks,” Wonwoo replied dryly as Seungcheol headed back to his office. He stared down at your picture attached to the file. This one was going to be tough.
~
“God, this is the worst part of the job,” Wonwoo grumbled as he sat perched in a tree. He had to watch you and collect some sort of information to base his match off of. Your file had some things but this was by far the best way to find the right match, and his method always worked. Wonwoo did have the best track record in the office. To date, only one couple he had matched had broken up, the rest were still happily together. So this worked.
It just sucked.
He followed you all day and the next few days after that learning as much as he could about you and picking up on all the little things you did. He noticed how you smiled at flowers. He noticed how you danced to your music when you thought no one else was watching. He noticed how you gave a lot of yourself to your friends and loved ones even when they couldn’t give back at the moment. You had such a big heart and everything was starting to make sense.
These were always sensitive cases. He didn’t want to pick the wrong person and get you hurt. And if he had to guess, that was probably what had happened the last few times. If you had already been hurt badly three times he had to be even more careful with how he matched you. You were kind and giving but he was worried you were hurt under all of that too. The more he thought it over the more he felt he might be right. He saw moments where your smile didn’t reach your eyes. He saw where you put up walls, however quietly, between you and your friends. He started to see the little signs that you were afraid to give away your heart.
~
The next week at the office he was more stressed then he had ever been. Every potential match that crossed his desk didn’t seem good enough. He didn’t like any of them, even the nicest ones seemed like they could hurt you. Why was now the time when no decent people were crossing his desk. How difficult could it be to find someone that could care about you like you cared about others?
He really wasn’t all that surprised when he got called into Seungcheol’s office.
“Okay what is going on with you? I’ve seen you take your time with assignments before but this is definitely the longest. And you look like you haven’t slept in days.”
Wonwoo snorted. “It hasn’t been days… Well maybe not that many…”
“Wonwoo what is wrong?”
He sighed. “It’s just… They’re so kind Cheol, and they’ve been hurt so many times I can see it when I look at them. I can’t screw this up. I can’t be the cause of more heartache but none of the files you’ve sent me have been good enough. There’s just no one… What are you smirking about?”
Seungcheol leaned forward across his desk. “You like them.”
“What? No! That’s absurd!”
Seungcheol shook his head. “It happens to a lot of cupids sooner or later,” he chuckled.
“Well I…” Wonwoo deflated a bit. “What do I do?”
“That’s up to you,” Seungcheol smirked.
~
This had to be the craziest thing he had ever done. He should just turn back and go to the office right now and find you a perfectly normal human match.
He knew deep down though that he didn’t want to do that.
He took a deep breath before approaching you, knowing that this was the one time he didn’t need the bow and arrow. He walked over to your table and you looked up, putting down your book and pulling out your earbud.
“Hey, I’m so sorry I just saw the book you were reading and I had to come over and talk to you about, it’s so good and so underrated.”
You smiled at him. “Yeah it really is! Sorry, did you tell me your name?”
“Ah, no not yet. It’s Wonwoo.”
“Well Wonwoo, you seem to have a great taste in books, we should head to the library someday so you can recommend me some.
He smiled brightly, his nose crinkling cutely. “Yeah, I’d like that.”
