I don't know exactly why they would form, but smth smth transphobia? did that even exist in victorian times They are functionally multiple! And have memory barriers and a headspace.
All alters use they/them btw
Woodrow - Ex-host, went dormant ever since they all got trapped in the constant. The geek, the scientist, the one that was closest to Wagstaff. All the alters miss them a lot, but can't find them anywhere in headspace. Did the work to get the system into their new body.
Xavier - Not as smart as Woodrow but honestly even more geeky. Obsessed with the moon and is the one that wants to harness the moon's power for themselves. The one who most often takes care of Eight.
Neves - Took over hosting after Woodrow went dormant. DESPISES Wagstaff and blames him for Woodrow's dormancy and them having to take over fronting. Claims to hate all organics, easily angered, and stubborn. As well as trying to seem as evil as possible. Basically, the WX-78 we see in most dialogues. Before they became host, they actually were the one making sure the headspace stayed organized and neat. It's been in a lot more disarray since they've taken over hosting.
Eight - Little, they all call them Eight because 8 is their favorite number, they're 8 years old, and they respond to it. Very clingy and doesn't talk much, but is otherwise the most subtle fronter. Loves looking up at the stars and staring at fire.
Their headspace is a Moonbase!!! With a really big lab. And toys for Eight.
Wagstaff was the only person they divulged their plurality to pre-constant. I'd like to imagine that while they don't admit it to Webber, they do treat Webber noticeably different from the other survivors and Webber notices the different personalities and memory gaps between them. Once when Xavier was fronting Webber asked them if they were like him, and they did tell him. Neves also eventually divulges to Winona. Eight's favorite person to cling to is Wormwood. (platonic wxwood my beloved) Wormwood doesn't really know that usually adults don't cling to others, so he doesn't mind at all because it's comfy.
