I’m going through and adding to my outline I have for Project X, and I just wanted to let the Treebark shippers know that I moved around the chapter that was originally going to be Chapter 6, so now that’s Ren and Martyn’s chapter <3

Would Martyn happen to be the security guard for the theater Ren works at in the alternative timeline where they didn't get kidnapped? 👀

No, I don't think so. I think Martyn started out working at concert venues, so maybe he ran into Ariana and Oli at some point, but not enough to properly get to know those two.

However, I do think when Ren's acting career would have taken off, Martyn would have been hired as his personal bodyguard, and the two would've grown to be very close. :)

Imagine if the scientists believe that Martyn could hear into the astral plane and possibly hear Gem when she's projecting. Just the two of them in a room, one completely spaced out and the other trying to see if he could hear whatever Gem is shouting at him. It doesn't work but it's a frequent subject the scientists talk about.

That absolutely sounds like a test they would have tried on numerous occasions before giving up.

Some Ren, Scott, and Martyn headcannons:

Ren and Scott are both shapeshifters, so I imagine that shifting takes a lot of energy and burns a lot of calories, so they need more food to keep up that energy. Imagine Martyn giving them more portions of his food when he's paired with them (even though the food isn't very good).

Their nerves don't always adjust properly, so they end up feeling phantom pains in limbs that don't exist. Like Scott feeling pain in a tail he does not have when he's human.

Ren will flinch at sounds Martyn would normally flinch at because he transforms into him the most. (ik he doesn't copy powers, but he spends so much time with Martyn it became a habit)

Ren has dog-like senses, so better sense of smell and hearing.

Scott and Martyn would flirt with each other to see who could fluster the other more. Scott remains victorious.

Martyn and Ren have talked about what they'd do once they escape (probably go on a proper date or something but they'd stay near each other)

Martyn has heard Scott go on and on about Jimmy. Imagine Scott talking about Jimmy to Martyn and Martyn looks over to Jimmy to see him trip on his own feet and fall flat on his face and Martyn looks back at Scott like, "Him?"

1.) Ooooo I never thought about shifting taking up calories, but you know what? It makes sense.

2.) That’s also a good thought. And I can imagine how odd and scary it must’ve been to feel a tail for the first dozen or so times.

4.) I think that would be canon. Trying to get Ren to transform into a dog didn’t work all the way, but he still has those features. He acts a little more animalistic now, so who’s to say he doesn’t also have better senses?

5.) Awwwww :( They probably did that to pass the time when they were sharing a cell.

6.) Martyn would love to take Ren on a real date. He has so many ideas for if when they get out.

Is there any Mean Gills scraps in Project X ?? I know you tried to include Mean Gills in Scott's design ..

I would love to write something for them. Mean Gills is so underrated from what I’ve seen, and there needs to be more content of them out there.

Sadly, with the route I’m going for in Project X, it won’t really be canon; however, I want to write some one shots talking about specific character interactions that don’t fit into the Project X plot. Mean Gills would absolutely be one of those one shots.
