The android leaned back in the self-driving taxi once he got inside and was able to sit down and be by himself for the first time in hours.
It was a bad case and they were getting nowhere, they thought they had their killer and Connor had chased them but had slipped on some rain from how much it was pouring out, getting his clothes soaked and his whole back covered in mud. Hank eventually, seeing how distressed the android was, sent him home and said they would do this first thing in the morning.
Connor opened his eyes - not realizing he had closed them in the first place - and looked as the taxi was coming up to the apartment he is sharing with his partner. Romantic partner. Slowing to a stop outside and a cool female voice saying, “you have arrived. Destination at your right.”
He opened the door and stepped out of the taxi, seeing he had left some mud behind on the chair of the taxi, he felt bad for whoever had to clean that but he pushed that away for now as he walked up to his apartment.
He moved out from Hanks after meeting Y/N and dating for a year and 6 months, he was always at her place and barely slept over at Hanks anymore, he agreed the moment she offered for him to move on. And it was closer to the department so that was perfect.
He felt bad for leaving Hank but the old man encouraged Connor to move out and be with his partner. Besides he had Sumo and Connor could visit anytime.
He made it up to her floor, some other residents were out and he could feel their stares when they saw how soaked he was, but he ignored them as he went up to the door and let himself in.
The TV was on and he saw Y/N curled up in a blanket enjoying some kind of action film. She looked over to him finally as he toe’s his shoes off. “Hey! How- oh my God, what happened to you?” Y/N said, sitting up straight and looked at Connor.
He filled her in on everything that happened today and Y/N paused her movie, getting untangled from her blankets, and came over to the android inspecting how soaked he was. “Oh, I’m so sorry, love.” She says once he was finished. “Let’s get you cleaned up.” Y/N leads Connor through the apartment down the hall to their bathroom.
She instructed him to strip and while he pulled off the muddy and wet clothes she started a bath, making sure it smelt nice and was the perfect temperature for a nice and relaxing bath. Even putting in some bubbles to help him feel better. She lets him step inside the bath and get comfortable as she takes the dirty clothes and places them in the wash, with a bunch of other laundry that needs to be done, and let them go through a cycle to get all that mud off.
She returned to the bathroom with a change of clothes for her boyfriend, who was inspecting the bubbles in the bath and Y/N realized this might be Connor’s first bubble bath.
“Bubbles?”
“Helps relaxing sometimes.” She says, setting the clothes on the sink counter and she came over to sit on the edge of the bath. “And their fun to play with.” She adds as she scoops a handful and blows the bubbles at her boyfriends who recoiled in surprise at the action, Y/N giggles as bubbles get stuck in his hair. “Now let’s get you cleaned up.”
Connor lets her pour the bubbly water on his hair to get it wet before she rubs in some of the shampoo he has, closing his eyes at the feeling of his girlfriends fingers scrubbing his hair gently, he already loved it whenever she touched his hair but he found himself in love with this feeling. Once she rinsed the shampoo out of his hair she moved to scrubbing and massaging the soap across his body, filling the room with the nice smell of lavender.
A smile rests on Connor’s lips as he hears Y/N hum a gentle tune, feeling his body become putty in her hands as she massages his shoulders, feeling grateful for having Y/N in his life and that she’ll do this for him. He notes that he’ll return the favor sometime when she’s stressed or had a bad day.
“Feel better?” Y/N asks, pressing a loving kiss on his temple where his LED is, she smiles seeing it was set on it’s calming blue instead of spinning yellow like when he walked in. Connor hums in approval of feeling better, his body starting to lean towards her touch. “That’s good, when you’re ready why don’t you dry off and get changed so we can hang out in the living room, watch a movie or something?” Connor nods and watches as Y/N leaves the room to allow Connor to dry off and change.
Once he was fully dried off and changed into his favorite sweater and sweatpants - the sweater a gift from Y/N when they first started dating and he loved it the moment he touched it - and came out in the living room to see various blankets on the couch with pillows from their bed, some streaming service on with their ‘list’ of movies to choose from.
He came over and relaxed back on the couch, Y/N joining him and wrapped both of them in the blankets. “If you want we can watch a movie or just lay here on the couch.” She offered as they got comfortable,Y/N laying back on the couch and Connor moved to lay next to her, laying his head on her chest and snuggling into her, closing his eyes as he felt her start to play and run her fingers through his hair. He looks at the TV and his LED flashes as he chooses a movie they haven’t seen yet in their list.
“Thank you for this, Y/N.” Connor mumbles into her chest.
“Of course, I care about you, love.” She says, pressing a kiss into his hair. “I know these type of days I just want to be pampered and cuddled too.”
“I’ll return the same when you have one of these days too.” Connor tells her, taking some notes in his head what he’ll do for her in return.
“Thanks, Con.” She says. “I’ll let you know when I have one. Right now why don’t you relax.”
Connor nods, snuggling closer to his girlfriend. His thirium pump beating faster as he thinks of how much he loves this woman here as she holds him in her arms. “I love you, Y/N.”

Your Point of View
Groaning, I turned the page of my textbook to read the next chapter. Of course this next chapter would be math, my worst subject. Surface area and volume, too. I was screwed. Pulling a piece of spare paper from my bag, I set myself up to work on the practice problems in the book.
1. Find the surface area of an open cylinder with height 3 in and diameter 8 in. Use 3.14 for pi. Round to the nearest tenth.
“Damn this,” I said angrily. I wasn’t going to spend my time finding the surface area of an open cylinder unless it would get me somewhere in life. Crumpling my unused paper, I threw it across the room angrily towards the waste basket. Missing the basket, I preceded to slam my textbook closed and pack up my belongings. After all my supplies had been tucked away in my bag, I looked up to see a young man who looked about my age. He had beautiful brown hair and soft green eyes. Looking me in the eyes, he extended his hand and introduced himself to me. “Caleb Prior. I see you’re struggling,” He said, a slight grin on his face. “I’m Y/N, and I was having a difficult time, but I don’t need your help,” I responded tightly. Caleb’s grin spread across his face quickly, giving off an air of friendliness. “Alright then, if you’re so clever. Help me with this problem,” I said, retrieving and opening my textbook to the stupid problem. “Surface area?” Caleb laughed. I nodded, pulling out another piece of paper and a pencil. “Can you help or not?” I asked him, pushing the paper towards him. “Of course I can. So how did you originally approach the problem?” He asked. I smirked and rolled my eyes, knowing he had seen my reaction. “Well you should know by now that damning a problem won't make it any easier,” Caleb laughed. I gave in, laughing. “Anyway, so we know it’s an open cylinder. So we only need to find the area of one of the circles, right?” Caleb asked, making sure I was paying attention. I nodded in confirmation, readying my pencil. “I know the formula. Two pi r^2 + Two pi r h,” I said, eager to contribute. Caleb smiled at me, nodding. “You got it! Since it’s an open cylinder, you only need to find one circle, so instead of the two pi r^2, it will only be pi r^2. To plug the numbers in, you need the radius of the circle, not the diameter. Since the diameter is 8, the radius would be 4 and the height is 3. Right?” I smiled, looking up from the textbook to meet his gaze. “And now you plug the numbers in,” I said, grinning. Typing the expression into my calculator, the answer flashed. 125.6. “125.6?” I questioned, looking up at Caleb for confirmation. He nodded, a large smile on his face. Finishing the problem, I moved to once again pack up my belongings. “Thank you so much,” I told Caleb again and again. I had finally solved the damn problem! “You're welcome, Y/N. Now if you'd like to, of course, it would be pleasure to have you over as my guest for dinner tonight,” Caleb responded. I nodded excitedly. Caleb Prior was no doubt a good-looking, smart, kind young man and I couldn't believe my luck in getting the chance to meet him. Surface area didn't seem so bad anymore.
*Hello! I’d like to apologize if the formula I used above is hard to read and/or understand as I was unable to put the proper mathematical symbols into this piece. Thank you!
She had asked him on a theater date and as a way to prepare for a date like that, since he wouldn’t be able to really talk with her, he didn’t know what to expect with that type of date. So he turned to the internet for advice.
This website gave suggestions of what to do on a theater date and one of the ideas was to hold hands or put your arm around your date. Connor decided to try hand holding first before he went ahead and put his arm around (Y/N). If she was okay with the hand holding.
As she was getting snacks for the movie for her to enjoy, Connor took this moment to look through the internet to see if he could find some advice on how to initiate holding her hand while they were watching the movie. Taking notes on how as she grabbed her popcorn and water. “Ready?” She asks, getting Connor out of his thoughts. His LED returned to the calming blue than being yellow the whole time (Y/N) was ordering.
“Yeah, I’m ready.” He said, looking at their tickets to find the theater room and he went with her to find it and get some seats.
He held the door open for her and stepped into the darkened room, the only light coming from the floor as they light the way and minimal light from the walls where they would soon darken as it got closer to the movie. Connor let (Y/N) choose the seats, which was in the front where the railing was where she sat down, kicked her feet up on the railing and put the arms down, placing the water in one of the cup holders, and started munching on her popcorn.
Oh. Connor thought as he looked at how she sat. There wouldn’t be a way for either of them to get close and her hands were on her popcorn, one holding the paper bag and the other popping the popcorn in her mouth. There wouldn’t be a way to hold her hand this way.
“You okay there, Con?” (Y/N) ask’s Connor, taking note of his LED spinning yellow as he looks at the way she was sitting.
“Y-yeah, I’m fine.” He says, pulling the seat down and sitting himself down, his hands in his lap and sitting up straight as usual.
(Y/N) raised her eyebrow to the android but didn’t question it much. Maybe he was overwhelmed or something, she was sure he would tell her if something was bothering him.
-
“Did you like it?” (Y/N) ask him as she tosses the empty paper bag as you and Connor leave the theater. Connor nodded in response to how the movie was, it was good for his first time, but he still felt odd inside. “Are you sure you’re okay? You’ve been acting weird all day.” (Y/N) ask’s Connor, raising her hand to rest on his forearm.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just-” His LED spun yellow as he thought of how to describe how he feels. Not entirely knowing himself. “I wanted to be closer to you as we watched.” He tells her, looking over to his girlfriend. She raised an eyebrow before it clicked on what he meant on ‘closer’. “I looked up what to do on a theater date and it said you could hold hands and...I wanted to while we watched but you were holding that popcorn instead.”
“Oh,” (Y/N) says, her heart warming that this was the reason he seemed gloomy the whole movie. “Well, you can hold my hand now. You don’t need to wait while we’re watching a movie.” She tells him, taking his hand in hers. “Just take it, I’m okay with it.”
“You are?” He looks into her eyes to make sure and saw the adoration in her eyes and a gentle smile tugged on his lips.
“More than okay.” She assured him, swinging their hands as they walked away from the theater. Connor felt like butterflies were swarming around inside him, walking more lighter and a more pep in his step, enjoying the feeling of his girlfriend's hand in his.
The Old House: A Long GoldenBlackHawk X Reader One-Shot
Got a request for a long GoldenBlackHawk X Reader one-shot. Hope this will suffice. It’s 2sp00ky4me! It's over here as well.
He had made the mistake of taking a walk to clear his head on a cold, October evening. He glanced about, seeing the pumpkins that decorated a few yards. Some had more extreme decorations for the impending holiday. Ghosts, skeletons, and witches were hung about. It was only another week or so before the kids would dawn their costumes and creep about in the dark, seeking assorted candy and frightening things.
The sun was beginning to set, the orange glow bouncing off the few clouds that littered the sky, a dash of pink or purple here and there. He should probably be getting back, but something made him press on, further down the street, continuing to face the wind that was growing harsher by the second. A shiver ran down his spine, though he didn’t acknowledge it.
He was far too caught up in his thoughts to deal with such trivial matters as a little shiver. He was alone. It was a bit unsettling. He knew the neighborhood well, but not necessarily its inhabitants. He quickened his pace. If he could make it around the block and back home before sunset everything would be fine.
The wind rustled the bushes next to him. He was in front of the oldest house in the area. To be truthful it had always given him the creeps in a way. Rumours of murders and suicides having taken place within its walls scared the local kids. It had sat vacant for as long as he could remember, a for sale sign in the front yard. Void of all living things, but perhaps home to a few of the non-living, it was a hotspot for rebellious teenagers on Halloween. He glanced up at it, staring at the aged Victorian elements.
It must have been quite majestic in its day, but now it cast a shadow on the other, newer houses that surrounded it. The weather had made it worn. It reminded him of something from an old horror movie or the house from The Addams Family TV show. He realized now that he had come to a complete stop in front of the main gate.
He looked at it as it eerily floated in the wind, a shrill screech coming from the rusty hinges. For a moment he didn’t want to move. He wanted to walk up to the door and ring the bell, just to see who or what might answer. But he just stood there, staring, glaring, watching the old house.
A light came on in one of the upstairs windows. His eyes widened; this was new. He watched as a figure floated past the window causing the old, lace curtains to sway. He felt himself being pulled toward the house, his foot taking a tentative step forward, closing the distance between him and the gate.
He noticed something missing as he now stood in the entry way. The for sale sign was gone. Had someone bought the creepy, old place? He looked back up to see the light was gone. Maybe he had imagined it. It was close to Halloween and the mind had a way of wandering to strange places this time of year.
He pulled his coat collar closer to him again as the wind picked up, a few old wind chimes that hung from the porch giving off an eerie tune. A dog howled in the distance as the sun set below the horizon. It was now just the left over glow, but it would soon be gone as well. He’d never really believed in ghosts, but the old house would make anyone a believer if the gazed at it for too long.
He tore his eyes from it, suddenly feeling that his mind had been intruded by the spirit of the house. It was an unsettling feeling. It sent shivers down his spine. He turned, fully planning on going home, but the sudden banging of a loose shutter made him spin round again, his eyes falling once more upon the house.
He could see it plain as day, the fire in the fire place. The smoke rose in small puffs from the chimney into the cold evening air. There was no doubt in his mind that someone or something was inside. He watched as the flames whipped about, licking the pieces of wood and enveloping them in a ritualistic dance.
He saw the figure again. It floated by gracefully in the window, stopping to look back at him. He had been seen. He quickly headed down the cracked sidewalk without looking back. As much as it pained him to say it, he felt like the paranormal where out to get him. And he had never been very superstitious.

The next morning, with daylight’s safety to guard him, he made his way back to the old house. This time he noticed the moving van that sat in the drive. How he had overlooked it before was beyond him. Someone had definitely bought the old house. He faintly heard approaching footsteps.
“It’s beautiful isn’t it?” A soft voice came from his right.
He glanced over to find a young woman about his age staring at the old house. He didn’t recognize her. She was clad in a brown coat that tied at the waist; large buttons ran up the front securing it around her. A bright, green scarf was wrapped round her neck, blowing out in the wind. She wore tan jeans with dark brown, knee high boots.
“Yes. I suppose it is.” He answered.
“I’m ______. Just bought the place, thought it was absolutely cozy and adorable.”
He watched as she tucked a loose strand of (h/c) hair behind her exposed ears.
“Kevin…I live down the street.”
“Nice to meet you. Can I offer you some tea? It’s awfully chilly today.”
“Um…sure.”
“Ok…uh…right this way then.” She gestured past the gate to the front door.
He followed her silently, watching as the house slowly towered higher over head. She produced an old, brass key from her coat pocket. He watched as it slid into the keyhole, then clicked after she turned it. The door creaked as it was pushed open, revealing a large foyer. A spiral staircase headed to the second floor with a dusty and cobweb covered old chandelier hanging in the center.
Most the furniture was all covered by dusty, white sheets. It must have been left over by the previous owner who actually lived in the house. The floor groaned as she headed back to the kitchen. He slipped his coat from his shoulders, hanging it on the hook by the door. He glanced around the corner into what appeared to be the den.
There was an old sofa sitting in front of the large fire place, the same fire place that the fire had been in last night. Behind it sat an oak, coffee table with two chairs on either side. Tall book shelves lined the wall, filled to the brim with old editions. A couple of side tables held old fashioned lamps with ornate, glass shades. A white cat jumped up on the sofa’s back letting out a quick meow while staring at him in awe with deep, sky blue eyes.
“Don’t mind her. She’s old and senile.” _______ sang as she walked in with a tray, setting it down on the coffee table.
“You didn’t have to go through all the trouble…” He said sitting in one of the chairs.
“It was no trouble at all. Just a little hot water.” She took the other.
He fixed a glass, still scanning the room as if searching for something.
“So…you’re the guy that was out front last night right?”
He nearly spit hot tea everywhere.
“How did you…?”
She laughed, “I get that a lot. I, uh… just have a way of knowing some things.”
….
“Some people call it being psychic. Others will say it’s just a gift. But I get these…vibes; I guess is how to describe it best. They just let me know things. It’s hard to explain.”
The cat jumped into her lap, curling up into a ball, lightly purring as she stroked her. The animal seemed nice enough, but this whole thing was giving him the creeps.
“If you’d like to go that’s fine. I’m used to people freaking out and leaving.”
He didn’t want to be rude. She seemed nice enough, but the house really, really creeped him the fuck out. He opened his mouth to tell her he needed to go work on some stuff, but was cut off by his stomach rumbling. He really did have editing to do, but the sudden protests from his stomach mixed with the savory smell that emerged from her kitchen made him realize it was lunch time, and he hadn’t eaten yet at all that day.
“You’re hungry.” She stated, moving the cat from her lap.
Before he could protest she had vanished around the corner. A short time later she appeared with a second tray. On it sat a steaming, wooden bowl filled with a dark liquid and what looked like chunks of vegetables. It smelled heavenly, making his stomach rumble once again. A silver spoon sat next to the bowl on the small metal tray.
“It’s hot, so you’ll want to use this.” She handed him a knitted pot holder.
He used it to carefully lift the bowl. Spooning some out, he blew on it. No need to burn his tongue on the hot meal. An abundance of flavors danced across his tongue as he took the first bite. It was surprisingly good.
“What is this?” He asked.
“Spice soup…although it really leans more toward being a stew than a soup. But because it’s so thin it gets classified as a soup.”
“So you’re a vegetarian?”
“Oh heavens no! I don’t like veggies that much. I put slices of venison sausage in it usually. But I’ll use chicken and other fowl occasionally as well. I just don’t eat much beef anymore.”
“It’s delicious.”
“Thanks. I actually got the recipe from a novel I read as a teenager.”
Maybe she wasn’t so frightening after all. She was treating him to a free meal. It was just the atmosphere of the house that was making him nervous. She was friendly as could be. The cat brushes against his legs as he took another bite.
Before long he’d finished every last drop in the bowl. He carefully set it back on the tray. He noticed that she had taken her coat off at some point along with the scarf. She had on a thin, long sleeve shirt that had orange and brown stripes. Around her neck hung a long, black string. A brass medallion hung from the string. It was a heart that appeared to have a Celtic weave on it. She took her place in the other chair, fiddling with the medallion. He watched as she twirled it in her fingers.
“Would you like anything else?”
“No, I’m quite full actually.”
“That’s good. I’m glad it was filling.”
“So what do you do, ________?” Kevin inquired.
“Well…I write short stories.”
“Why’d you move?”
“I needed a change of scenery. Something new to look at for inspiration.”
“You know about the stories of ghosts in this house then.”
“Oh yes. That was part of why I bought it. I don’t really believe in the supernatural. At least not in the stereotypical sense of the word.”
“Really?”
The conversation continued on well into the evening. Kevin found himself entranced by the way she spoke. They laughed and shared stories. It wasn’t long before the two considered themselves friends. They exchanged numbers and agreed to continue their conversation on another date. Kevin bid here farewell and walked home with a smile on his face. He paid no heed to the chilling wind that threatened to freeze him.
Over the next few days the two new friends shared many meals together. Their conversation spread to matters of family and past experiences. They even talked of scary encounters being that Halloween was at the end of the week. Kevin even felt the faintest of butterflies in his stomach when he was around her now.
The 31st soon arrived. Kevin had agreed to help her hand out candy to the young children in their costumes. That was why he was walking down the sidewalk to the old house once again. He soon arrived and was greeted by her cat. He let himself in, announcing his arrival. She came down the stairs wearing a very realistic witch costume.
She smiled and acted like she had turned him into a toad. He croaked for her amusement and the two fell into fits of laughter. The evening went by quickly, kids coming and going for their candy. As the sun was dropping lower the last child left, skipping away happily.
“I think that was the last of them.” _______ smiled, popping a sweet into her mouth.
“I believe you’re right.” Kevin closed the door.
“Thank you for helping me.” She got on her tip toes and placed a kiss on his cheek.
He smiled, and then leaned down, grasping her chin, to place a kiss on her lips. They stayed together for a brief moment, hearts beating fast. When they pulled away, no words were spoken. None where needed, the look in their eyes said it all.
They agreed to have dinner the next evening, on November 1st. It would be their first date. And so it was agreed and made official. Then Kevin said his good-byes before leaving for the night. The moon was full, high up in the sky, casting eerie shadows over the street. He noticed the faintest of glows down the small alley way that ran around behind the old house, but thought nothing of it on a night like tonight.
The cold wind blew once again, forcing him to pull his jacket closer as a shiver ran down his spine. The only noise, other than the occasional rustling of the trees, was his footsteps. As he got closer to his own residence the sound of music from a late night party could be heard echoing through the night. He made his way inside and quickly fell asleep, dreaming only of the date he had tomorrow.
________________
The sun was high in the sky when Kevin woke up. Glancing at his phone he saw that it was almost one in the afternoon. How he had managed to sleep in that late he knew not. But he quickly shot out of bed and began to get ready. He had told ________ that he would pick her up at five.
As he set about getting ready he considered where he could take her. There were plenty of nice places around town and she was new to the area so any of them would do. But after spending so much time in the old house with her, it had come to feel like a second home. So he decided he would make something, pack it up, and take it over to her place. They could go for a walk or something afterwards.
When everything had been cooked he jumped into the shower. The hot water did it’s best to wash away his nerves and the tension in his muscles. He dried off promptly when he was done; throwing on the clothes he’d picked out earlier, and headed for the door. There was an extra bounce in his step as he walked along today.
The basket that held what he had prepared swayed gently as he walked. He rounded the corner, seeing the top of the old house high up in the distance, like a beacon leading him to her. He approached the gate happily, ready to knock on the door. He hadn’t thought to call her all day, so he hoped she was ready. As he reached to push back the gate, a hand grabbed his arm.
“I’m sorry sir, but you can’t go in there.” A tall, uniformed man said to him.
He looked at the man who had stopped him. He wore a police uniform. He’d been so in thought he hadn’t seen the cop car that was parked out front. He looked past the gate; crime tape was stretched across the front door.
“What’s going on?”
“The young lady who lived here was killed last night.”
“What…?”
“I’m sorry. Did you know her?”
“I…we were supposed to have dinner tonight.”
“I’m terribly sorry for your loss sir.”
Kevin stared in horror at the old house. It was cursed. Death resided over the residence and he realized that now. Perhaps that was what had made the place so scary to begin with. It had now claimed another victim. He hoped it was happy. Happy that it had taken something good from him. Maybe that was what it had wanted from him to begin with.
He recalled how it had nearly drawn him in that first night. The retched house should be burned down and all that is within as well, he thought. All it did was bring loss and pain to those associated with it. He set the basket down by the gate and turned to go home, a tear trailing down his cheek.
He felt a small pressure on his legs. Looking down he saw that her white cat had made its way outside. It was now rubbing against him, wanting attention. He noticed it had her necklace around its neck. As he reached down to pet it, it bolted for the house. He looked up watching as it ran and jumped into the open window.
He gasped. Standing in the window, the curtain blowing about in front of her, was ______. Or rather her ghost he supposed. She gave a small smile, before leaving the window’s view. He shook his head, dismissing the thoughts of ghosts that where running amuck. She was gone and that was that. He returned home to cuddle with his own cat and let his grief over take him.
_______________
The next two months passed slowly. He would aimlessly walk around, finding himself standing outside the old house, her white cat still popping out from the bushes to rub on his legs. He had tried to take it home with him on several occasions, but it refused to leave. He didn’t know why he always ended up at the house.
He imagined it had to do with unresolved emotions. But tonight that would end. It was New Year’s Eve. The one night that no one would be paying attention to a lone man dressed all in black who was outside facing the chilling, snowy weather. His goal was to rid the neighborhood of the cursed house.
He carried a pet carrier, planning to force the white cat to leave. His other hand, the empty one, was shoved deep into this coat pocket, flipping the small box of matches in circles as he walked. The moon was not yet high enough in the sky to provide any light, not that it would have anyway as there were many clouds floating about that sent brief, flurries of snow falling down. His boots made the snow crunch under his weight as he walked rapidly toward his destination.
He stopped in front of the gate, glaring up menacingly at the shadow of the house before him. He set the pet carrier down gently, whistling softly for the cat. It soon appeared and he stroked it lovingly. When he had gained its trust, he lifted it, setting it inside, and locking it in. It wailed out in protest, not wanting to leave the last place its mistress had called home.
He turned back to the old house, anger driving him on. He pushed open the gate, hearing it creak loudly. But it would arouse no suspicion this night. Those who were not asleep were either blasting music or watching the late night specials in anticipation of the coming New Year. They had other things on their mind.
He stepped up onto the porch, the wind picking up speed as it blasted down the street. He pulled a lighter out of his pocket, breaking it and letting the liquid soak into the wood before the door. It wasn’t much, but it would be enough to do the job. He pulled out the box of matches, twirling them slowly. He pulled one out, striking it on the side of the box.
He watched the flame dance for a moment. It reminded him of that first night, how the flames had danced through the window in the fireplace. Flames would certainly be dancing this night. Nothing would stop them. He dropped the match where he had let the lighter fluid soak in and watched as it began to burn.
He quickly went back out the gate, taking the caged cat with him. As he walked away, he could hear the fire begin to roar. He would have sworn he heard the house shriek in pain as it was consumed by the dancing flames. He never looked back, but continued quickly back to his own home.
He rounded the corner, quickly turning to go to his door. He closed it swiftly behind him, setting the cat down, and listening as the first fire truck sped by. But by now it would be too late. As old as the house was the wood would burn easily and quickly. He imagined it was pretty well gone by now. He opened the cage, letting the cat roam free. The clock began to chime and he glanced at it.
12:00 it read. It was time to start over with a blank slate. He erased the old house from his mind, walking up stairs and lying down on his bed. The white cat curled up at his feet and for the first time in two months he drifted into a peaceful sleep. With the New Year came his fresh start.
A light snow began to fall outside, covering everything in a sheet of white. Kevin could have cared less. His breathing evened out as his sleep deepened. The white cat looked out the window, watching the snow fall slowly. It purred then moved up the bed, curling up close to Kevin’s side, never intending to leave.

It still felt like it was just the other day he had bumped into her while he was vacationing in Colorado, hanging out with the guys. She’d been on vacation too, sort of. It was a trip for one of her college classes. She was an art major; quirky, funny, the cutest little smile would light up her face. Her eyes sparkled like stars…or maybe like diamonds? He wasn’t sure; he just knew he loved to stare into them, to get lost in them. She had been doing research on some of the murals around the area for a project.
He sighed, his mind only focused on her. Everything would be perfect. The house was spit shined; laundry was done; table was set; candles ready to be lit; roses at the ready; music turned down just right; lamps on the lowest setting; it couldn’t have been better. He just needed to wait for her to get there. It would only be another couple hours.
She had just moved to Seattle. After graduating before the Christmas holiday she had been offered a job at the art museum in town. She had jumped at the chance to have a job closer to him and so she was staying in a friend’s apartment for the time being. She wanted to wait till he got his own place before moving in with him. It seemed a bit odd to move into a house that he shared with his dad.
He didn’t mind waiting; he had been searching hard though. He glanced up at the clock: another hour and a half to go. He needed to get ready. Not that he wasn’t ready; he had just planned on looking extra nice. Rushing to his room, he picked up the suit he had set out earlier. Grateful that his cat hadn’t chosen to sleep on it, which would have resulted in it being covered in fur, he quickly walked to the bathroom to change and fix his hair.
He closed the door behind him, not noticing the faint click that followed as it fell into place. He’d just take a quick hot shower to freshen up and then complete his look for the evening. He stripped himself from the grimy clothes he’d worn to clean up the house, letting the water heat up as he did so. When he stepped into the shower the wisps of steam rose up around him, relieving his muscles of the tension they held.
All his worries, his nervousness, about tonight slipped away. They were carried down the drain with the soapy water, disappearing down to the depths where they belonged. He breathed in the steamy air, letting it cleanse him of any last worries and blowing them out in a giant huff. There was nothing to worry about. Tonight would go off without a hitch. She’d love it; they’d eat, laugh, cuddle, and eventually fall asleep in each other’s arms after a few soft kisses and the whispering of sweet nothings.
Finally removing all the soap from himself he bent down to turn off the faucet. As he rotated the handle controlling the hot water the screw holding it in place came lose. This caused the handle to come off leaving the scalding water to continue spilling into the tub. He quickly pulled the curtain back and jumped out to avoid burning his feet. Still dripping wet he looked at the handle he still grasped and back at the faucet in confusion. It still hadn’t sunk in what had just happened.
Dripping wet he turned, setting the handle on the counter and grabbing a towel. He dried himself in a hurry, planning fully on leaving to grab some pliers from the closet in an attempt to turn the small piece the handle had once been attached to, in order to stop the flow of hot water. He wrapped the towel firmly around his waist, small droplets still falling from his black hair, as he reached for the door knob.
He grasped it firmly and began to twist. As he did so, the handle came off. He looked at it, stared at it actually, before looking up in complete and utter awe at what was going on. He tried to place the door knob back on to no avail. The door just wasn’t having any of it tonight. He let it fall to the floor and ran a hand through his wet hair in exasperation.
Maybe he could fiddle with the locking mechanism and get it to open? He bent down, looking closely at the inside workings of the door knob. He gently placed a finger inside, trying to make the mechanism go the way he wanted it too. All it did was jam in tighter. This wasn’t happening.
It couldn’t be happening. Tonight was supposed to be perfect and now everything felt as though it was going to shit. His whole plan was falling apart right in front of him and there was nothing he could do about it. It suddenly dawned on him that he could call someone. He turned to the counter, looking frantically for his cell phone. He even checked the pockets of the pants he had removed upon entering the bathroom. That’s when he remembered; he’d sat his phone down in the kitchen earlier that day and hadn’t picked it back up. As far as he knew it still sat there.
He was now quite mad with himself. How could he have been so stupid? What was she going to think when she tried to call and he never answered? He let himself slide down to the floor. Still in nothing but a towel it was far from the most comfortable of positions. He felt water running down his skin.
The sudden heat of the room swept over him like a heat wave. The steam from the still running hot water was turning the room into a makeshift sauna. If he stayed in there for too long he’d turn into a raisin and possibly just continue to shrivel away. The water on his body was no longer just left from his shower; it was now a mixture of sweat and water accumulating on him from the air.
He rested his elbows on his knees, letting his face fall into his hands. What was he going to do now? This whole thing was turning into a disaster. What if he died in here? What a way to go. He could see the headlines now: Young man dies trapped in bathroom. As if he didn’t get ridiculed enough in life, just imagine what it would be like after dying like this, if there was anything after death that is.
He thought about (your name). She’d be so upset. Probably disappointed too; disappointed that he hadn’t been able to get out, that he hadn’t tried hard enough. But what could he do? The heat was sapping him of his energy, he had left his phone in the kitchen, his tools where in the closet, and the floor was now wet and slippery. The options were sparse and he had exhausted most of them.
A tear fell from his eye. He was going to die. He didn’t want to. He wanted to stay with his friends, to laugh with them, to play with them, to grow old with them. He wanted to hold you, to see your smile, to get lost in your eyes again, to grow old with you, to marry you, start a family with you. He wanted so much more in life, but he had never thought about it quite like this before.
He laughed; a simple, little “how could I have been so stupid and naïve” laugh. He’d never thought much of life. He’d experienced not wanting to go on; feeling worthless like you had no use being alive. But now he understood, he got it, he wanted to live. He needed to live. He needed to live for you, for his friends, for his fans.
But he had accepted his fate. He was going to die…alone…hot…sweaty…like a raisin…in his own bathroom. What more could he have asked for on Valentine’s Day?

You pulled the phone away from your head for the sixth time in the last fifteen minutes. Why wasn’t Kevin answering? He’d said he had a surprise for you tonight, so why not answer? Worry was beginning to sink in as you glanced at the time in the corner of the screen. He said he’d call at six, and it was now fifteen after. Kevin was never late. He always called exactly on time when he said he was going to call at a specific time.
You were ready to go, to walk out that door and drive to his house. You tried one last time, dialing the number and waiting.
“Hi, you’ve reached Kevin. I can’t answer the phone right now because I’m busy or recording, but if you could leave a message, I’ll try to get back to you when I can.” The recording played.
You ended the call and promptly grabbed your keys. You called out a quick good-bye to your friend and headed for your car. You weren’t waiting any longer. Something had to be wrong. You plopped down into the leather seat, your dress riding up higher than you’d like. As the engine purred to life you slammed it into reverse, backing out of the drive as fast as you dared. The car raced down the road almost as fast as your heart was racing in your chest. It felt like something was going to explode, you just didn’t know if it was going to be your heart or the car engine. (Stupidest line I’ve ever written right there!)
*Time Skip Like A Boss*
It took ten minutes to get to Kevin’s house, as opposed to the usual twenty-five. Thank God for no traffic on this night. His car was in the driveway. That was a good sign, right? You quickly pulled in, parking behind it and running up to the door. Three swift knocks fallowed by a succession of door bell rings announced your presence……….there was no answer. No “be there in a minute” or “just a sec” like usual.
Tears threatened to fall as you had a mental panic attack. Why wasn’t he answering the fucking door!? You fumbled with the potted plant sitting to the side, firmly grasping the spare key that sat beneath it. Kevin had said to only use it in emergencies. If this wasn’t an emergency, then you had no clue what he meant by that. You flung the door open and were welcomed by the scent of fresh roses.
Your jaw dropped as you took in the sight before you. The table set and ready to be dined at, the candles ready to be lit, fresh roses in a vase, and the faintest sound of music softly playing in the background greeted you. Never had you expected this. It had been eight months, but this looked like something for a wedding anniversary. But where was Kevin? That was the one thing missing.
“Kevin!” You called.
….
Nothing. That was strange. You glanced down the hall toward his room.
“Kevin! You there babe?”
….
Still nothing. You headed cautiously down the hall. This felt far too much like a scene from a horror movie or slash flick. As you went by the bathroom the floor made a squish noise and the temperature rose by several degrees. What on Earth was going on here? You tapped on the door.
“Kevin…are you in there?”
*moaning*
“Kevin!”
That had to be him. Was he hurt? What happened?
“Kevin can you open the door?”
More moans. How long had he been in there? You jiggled the handle, but it wouldn’t budge. It wasn’t a normal lock…thank God. You quickly ran to the kitchen, retrieving a butter knife from the drawer. This would unlock it. You rushed back, placing the knife into the slot and turning it quickly. The door opened this time.
A wall of hot steam rushed out at you, causing you to scream and step back in shock. Waving a hand in front of you, you quickly set about finding Kevin the mass of hot steam that now bellowed from the door way. What in the name of all things sacred was going on? You dove in, slipping on the wet floor and falling down with a thud.
There you found Kevin, lying there in a towel, half passed out from the heat. You wrapped an arm around his waist, pulling him out the door with you, not noticing the towel had fallen off. You took him to the couch in the other room. It was closer than his bed. That’s when you noticed the towel was missing.
A deep blush rose on your cheeks as you scrambled to cover him with a nearby blanket. Now you needed to cool him down. You grabbed the fan from across the room, placing it in front of him and then running to get some ice water and a cold wash cloth. You placed the cloth on his forehead, hoping he would come back around enough to get a drink.
He grumbled something that you couldn’t understand. His eyes fluttered around before landing on you.
“Is this heaven?” He mumbled.
You smiled, “I thought you didn’t believe in heaven?”
“Hmm…But you’re an angel right?”
“Drink this mister delirious.” He smirked, “Nearly died and you’re still smooth as ever I see.”
“Always.” He says taking a long drink.
“You’re so cheesy.”
“So you saved me. I guess I owe you.”
“I thought I was losing you. You’re alive though, so you don’t owe me anything.”
It suddenly dawned on him that he had only been in a towel back in the bathroom. He glanced down, seeing the blanket that covered him. His eyes went wide and he shifted uncomfortably, a blush forming on his cheeks.
“I didn’t see anything.”
He relaxed a touch.
“Well…maybe I saw just a bit.” He stared at you blankly, “Ok, so I might have seen…everything.”
You gave him a big grin. He visibly paled.
“You did a nice job of cleaning up the house and making it all romantic and stuff.” You pointed out, hoping to cheer him up.
“Shit! It was supposed to be a surprise.” He says shitting up quickly.
“It was a surprise alright! I didn’t think you’d accidentally try to kill yourself!”
“I wasn’t trying to kill myself. There were just a few…mishaps.”
“Right. We should probably call someone about your shower.”
“That sounds like a good idea.”
“Happy Valentine’s Day?!” You gave him a quick kiss.
“Yeah…more like Happy Valentine’s Disaster.” A pout forms on his face, but you kiss him again anyways.

I got this as a request on my Wattpad account, therefore it is posted there as well.
A sigh escaped your lips as you debated whether or not to go knock. Would he remember you? Would he still care? Because you sure did. You cared more than you would ever admit. Despite what others thought, you’d always had a bit of a crush on James. There was so much to fall for though. His smile, his eyes, his laugh, the way he looked when he got mad; you could have gone on all day. You just didn’t know if he had ever felt, even in the slightest, the same way as you did. Why was it so complicated now? You stared at the door even harder. Maybe it would just open on its own and he would come out gesturing for you to come in, just like old times. Old times…those were the days…

You shifted nervously in the back seat of the car. It was the first day of school, but this time you weren’t going back to the friends you had. It wasn’t even going to be the same people or the same school. No, you had told your parents you needed a break, a change of pace. So after much begging on your part they agreed to let you sign up for the program. It was sort of like the exchange student program, but you stayed in the U.S.
Your new school for the year was in Pennsylvania. You were excited, or at least you had been. The family you were staying with was super nice, the area was beautiful. It couldn’t have been better. But now as Mrs. Blakely drove you to the school on the first day, you were having second thoughts. Flashbacks to the awkward time in junior high when you had been the new kid, after the move, flew into your head. You were about to relive that experience, except now…it was in high school. You where a junior and this school was bigger than the ones you had been attending for the last four years. You couldn’t help but have the first day jitters.
Mrs. Blakely pulled up to the front, letting you out and saying she’d be back to pick you up later. You waved and glanced at your phone. You were late…the perfect way to start off your first day. You rushed to the office to get your schedule. The lady was nice enough to walk you to the first class you had. As you walked through the door the teacher’s eyes fell on you, as did those of the rest of the class. A few whistles and giggles echoed through the now silent room. After the teacher introduced you, you headed to the only open seat in the class.
It was the usual first day speech being given and as you listened soft snores began to come from the desk next to yours. You were at the back of the classroom, the perfect place for the kids who enjoyed sleeping through class. You glanced over to the desk. Chin length strand of wispy, black hair hid the boys face. His snores grew louder catching the teacher’s attention.
“Mr. Wilson.” The teacher stated with a frown.
You watched as he strode down the aisle to the young man next to you with a yard stick in hand. He slammed it down on the desk inches from the boys face. Startled out of his wits the boy jumped from his desk screaming profanities at the top of his lungs. The class broke into fits of laughter as the teacher began to lecture him on why it was inappropriate to sleep in class.
“Furthermore, Mr. Wilson, you have missed my important speech on what this class will be about. You have also missed the introduction of your new classmate. You can expect to get detention and you can direct Miss (Your last name) to the rest of her classes, as she doesn’t know her way around. Am I understood Mr. Wilson?”
“Mhmm.” The boy mumbled.
“I said: Am I understood?”
“Yes Sir.”
“Good.” Just then the bell rang “Class dismissed. Here’s your detention slip Mr. Wilson.”
“Thanks.” The boy said sarcastically.
He took the paper and headed over to you. This was something you weren’t too sure about. It was awkward and uncomfortable for you both. He didn’t even introduce himself, just asked for your schedule and said” This way. Let’s go,” before heading off down the hall in a grumpy manner. You headed after him in a quick manner, taking in what you could of the school with a timid curiosity.
**************
Your morning classes had passed without any more crazy things happening…thank goodness. But now it was lunch and you had no friends, just the acquaintance of the boy who had been showing you around all day. You still didn’t know his name. In all honesty, you were a little frightened to ask him. He was somewhat intimidating.
You glanced around the lunch room, trying to find a place to sit. No one was offering up a spot because you were the unfamiliar face in the crowd. There was one table toward the back of the room that was empty, so you headed for it, careful not to trip or slip on any of the spilt food that littered the floor.
As you got closer to the table you realized it wasn’t as vacant as you thought. The toes of a pair Vans peaked up over the edge of the table ever so slightly. A quick glance over the edge revealed the sleeping form of the one and only Mr. Wilson. Perhaps you should find a new seat, but where? So you got up some courage and spoke.
“Can I sit here?” you asked shyly.
….
You walked around the table and gently poked him. His eyes fluttered open, taking a minute to adjust and focus. He frowned when he saw you.
“What?” he mumbled.
“I just wanted to know if I could sit here.”
“Free country ain’t it.”
“Yes…I suppose so.” You took a seat across from him.
He sat up and brushed the hair from his face. It was the first time you’d gotten a good look at him all morning. He had dark, brown eyes. His nose seemed a bit big too, but it was fitting with his other features. A strong jaw line that was graced with a frown; you wondered if he ever smiled. Lunch was eaten in silence, your mind wandering to new places. Mostly thoughts about this boy floated through your head.
“What’s your name?” You hadn’t realized it had been said aloud.
“James…James Wilson.” You glanced up, realizing you’d spoken and he’d responded.
“Oh…I’m (your name).”
He reached over to shake your hand. You shook it; a small smile on your lips. And for the first time a small smile found its way onto his as well. You didn’t realize what you had just gotten yourself into at the time, but he would become a close friend.

You sighed again. Why did it have to change? You opened the door to your car, stepping out into the cool air. You needed to see him again, face-to-face. Not some video image on Skype, not some words on a phone or a voice on the other end of the call. You walked up the drive to the front door. Deep breathes. You can do this. It’s not that hard. It’s just James, why are you scared? He’d never hurt you…gosh he couldn’t even hurt a fly.
You read the comments, watched his videos. Sure he could mess up a keyboard, but he was just a sweetheart in reality. The only time you’d seen him truly mad was back when you went to school together. You’d become close friends at that point, but his old friends didn’t approve. They said you were a freak. James always told them off, but that one time…they went too far…

You were pushed up against the wall after school, back behind the gym. The grip he had on your arms was beginning to bruise. The bricks were rough against your exposed skin. The day had been going so well too. He wasn’t alone either; his little “gang” of wannabe hoodlums was grouped up behind him, laughing at your pain. You weren’t going to give them the satisfaction of seeing you cry though, you’d be strong.
A punch to the gut threatened to let the tears fall though, as you double over in pain. You fell to the ground, hitting your head on the pavement. The laughter got louder. Sickening remarks flew from their tongues, trying to make the emotional and mental pain just as bad as the physical. But a familiar voice rang out over the others.
“What the fuck are you doing!? Get away from her you bastards!”
The group began to scatter, but not the one who had punched you. He wasn’t afraid…he should have been. You could hear the punches that followed. Then silence before the sickening thud, the sound of his head splitting open on the pavement. It was followed by a series of cracks and girlish screams. Finally sirens filled the air. Warm arms wrapped around you, pulling you close, holding you tight. You finally were able to see what was going on.
The bully, your attacker, James’ old friend, laid there on the ground. Blood ran from the gash on his head. His breaths were ragged, you guessed from broken or dislocated ribs. The throbbing in your head threatened to make you scream, causing you to cling tighter to James shirt. You could see the paramedics coming as you drifted into unconsciousness.
*************
You woke up hours later in the hospital. James had saved you, but at what cost? He came by later. The school had suspended him for a few days, but there were no charges against him since he acted to defend me. The other boy had gotten expelled; served him right. You wouldn’t be able to go back to school for a few days, so James spent his times of suspension with you. It was during this time that video games became a regular thing for the two of you. He had been playing them for years, but you hadn’t been real big on them. It was during that four day time period that Machinima had first been mentioned. You had no idea at the time how much it would change things in the future.

You looked at the door bell. It was right there, not far from reach. Why was this so hard? Was it because you were going to tell him? Because you were going to tell him how you felt. Maybe it was because you didn’t know if he was the same anymore; because you didn’t think you were the same anymore. It didn’t matter did it? You could at least tell him that once upon a golden moon, you had feelings for him. So you reached out to press the door bell.
Just then the door was flung open. A man with short, black curls and deep, brown eyes, who was staring intently at his phone came out the door and ran straight into you. You took a few steps back, the only thought in your mind being: He got a haircut...and grew a beard. You knew it was him. He had those same eyes and that same nose.
“Oh God…” That same voice, though it was a bit deeper now, “I’m sorry. Can I help you?”
What do you say? You were drawing a blank. Did you great him as an old friend? Or act like you didn’t recognize him? Maybe you should just say his name like it was a question and feign slight ignorance. It had been three years and a person can look different in pictures on a screen than in real life…right? He obviously didn’t recognize you. So you just went with it.
“Yes. I think you can. I’m looking for James Wilson.”
“You found him.” He said extending a hand.
“James. It’s me, (your name). You look…different. Older…I guess.”
“No way are you that little girl I had to haul around junior year!” He said loudly, same old James.
“Well…I am, but I’m not. I’ve changed some.”
“Yeah, you finally filled out.” He said in reference to your chest area.
“Oh gee, thanks James.” You punch him in the arm.
“Ow! You got stronger too.”
“You better believe it! I’ll kick your ass!”
You both laughed, as he pulled you into a hug. He sent a quick text before holding the door open for you to head on in. The size of the house was crazy. He had told you the other had moved out but used parts of the house for office space. Still the place seemed far too big for him to live in by himself.
“What do you do all day in this place?”
“Record, edit, occasionally fuck with Aleks.”
“The Russian guy? Why would you mess with a Russian?”
“It’s fun! He has the best reactions to the shit I do to him.” He laughed, you loved that laugh.
“So…It’s been a while.”
“Yeah, it has…Wanna play a game?”
“No thanks. I’m not really into that stuff anymore.”
“Oh…ok. Uh, why not?”
“I have a job; one that takes up a good amount of my time. It’s just not something I do anymore.”
“I guess that’s cool.”
“Do you ever think about it? The way things were?”
“Sometimes…We got into so much trouble.” He said laughing.
“Yeah, we were pretty immature back then... but I've changed. Have you?”
“I guess…I don’t really know. Have I?”
An awkward silence settled in the room. He motioned you over to the couch, flopping down on it himself. You walked over, cleared a spot, and sat down softly in a mature manner. You crossed your legs and folded your hands in your lap. You had chosen to take up a professional career path; the influences it had had on you were evident in your everyday mannerisms. You could see the annoyance on James’ face at the way you were acting. But this was who you were now.
He idly scratched his beard. The silence had stretched on now for a good five minutes. That saying that silence is deafening, definitely applied right now. You heard a car as it drove by outside. You tapped your foot in the air impatiently, trying to come up with something to talk about. Maybe coming here wasn’t such a good idea. You felt him shift besides you, causing you to glance over at him from the corner of your eye.
He was still attractive; still the same old James. He was still the same person you had become so close to all those years ago; the same guy you had secret crushed on after having known him for three months. You could feel a small tear roll down your cheek. He had managed to stay the same, to still be young. And here you were, more mature, less fun, and feeling older than you were.
The tears fell freely down your cheeks now. There were no sobs, just tears. You realized now that you had wanted to come see him to try and get back what you had lost. You had never intended to see that he had changed. The whole trip had been for selfish reasons: to fix you. You hated your job; it was the most stressful job on the planet. Now you felt stuck; stuck in a hole with no way out, but now…now James was staring over the edge at the top of that hole. Maybe he could help you get back out.
You felt a hand on your shoulder and it sent you over the edge. The sobs to accompany your tears began to escape. No, no. No, no, no, no, no! James had only seen you cry once and that had been the day he nearly killed his old friends; the day you’d been sent to the hospital; the day before you found out about Machinima, the thing that had made everything change. He pulled you closer, trying to comfort you, his arms wrapping around you the way they had that day.
“Why are you crying, (your name)?” he cooed, trying to make whatever was bothering you better.
“It changed…gosh it all changed…I changed.” You sobbed, “And here you are…you’re the same…and I just feel useless and stupid…why has it all changed? Why did it have to change, James!?”
“I’m sorry if you’re not happy with life.”
“I’m miserable! I just want to go back to the way things were! The way things where when I had you around me every day! Do you even realize how much you meant to me James? How safe you made me feel? How much I cared for you?”
The questions lingered in the air. He had no answer.
“I would have died for you, given everything up in a heartbeat…for you! You were my best friend! And though I never said it, maybe I should have though, I loved you! I FUCKING LOVED YOU! And what did I get? I got left behind, betrayed because you wanted to play video games all day long with your Machinima buddies!”
His expression was blank. He just sat there and took it.
“It all changed that say James! It would never be the same after that! It never was the same after that! It isn’t the same after that! You were always too wrapped up in playing games to pay attention to the one person who felt anything for you, that at the time wasn’t a bad emotion! But I couldn’t hate you! I could never hate you! But I’ve made myself miserable all these years because I lost you!”
He still just sat there, saying nothing. Just listening, like he always used too.
“I thought I had come here to tell you how I felt…but I was wrong. I’ve realized now that I came here to try and get back. To get back to the way I was…not to see you again. Not to fix our relationship or to see if there was ever anything between us at all. I just wanted to see if I could be happy again, or find out if I was too far gone to get back. But it doesn’t matter now. I’m sorry I flew off the handle and yelled at you. I’ll go now.”
You went to get up but felt a hand wrap around your wrist. You stopped, turning back around to face him as he stood up.
“I didn’t know how you felt. And I’m sorry for that.” He said calmly, “I should have told you back then, but at the time, my mom was sick. I needed a decent, steady job and Machinima was offering one. So I took it. She got better before I moved though. The only reason I did move was because that’s where “The Creatures” were based out of. It made working with them easier and made getting money easier. I’m still sending money back home to her. So I’m sorry if you blame everything on me or on Machinima. But can you really blame me or them now that you know what was going on?”
“No…I’m sorry.” You wiped the last of the tears away.
“It’s ok. You never knew…till now.”
“This is so backwards right now.”
“What do you mean?”
“You used to be the one who would yell and scream about stuff. I was the one calmly explaining things and settling you down.”
“I guess I have changed then.” He chuckled.
“Yeah, I guess we just swapped in a way.”
“Yeah…maybe that’s a good thing.”
“What makes you say that?”
“Well…this…” His lips pressed gently against yours for a moment before he pulled back.
“Oh…”
“I never had the guts to let you know how I felt either.”
You smiled, “I guess we’re meant to be then.”
“We’ll see what happens.”
“Feel like staying for a while?”
“I guess we can play that game now.”
“I’m gunna kick your ass!”
“Huh! Bring it on mother fucker!”
*******************
“I thought you said you didn’t have time to play anymore?!” James screamed after you won.
“Maybe I should have been a bit clearer. What I meant when I said: It just wasn’t something I did anymore. I meant it wasn’t something I do for fun anymore. I’m a video game tester bitch!”
“Fuck you!”
“Maybe later, baby. If you’re nice.”
“Come here you!”
You got up and ran, James chasing you through the house. He finally caught you as you made that final turn in the kitchen. His hands gripped your waist tightly as he flung you onto the cabinet. His lips crashed into yours as he pulled your face to his.
“Gotcha.” He growled.
“I guess things have changed after all…for the better.”
