X-guard seminar with Black belt Windson Ramos
Like many guard styles when first arrived seemed hard to beat the x guard has developed to coop with the development of counters. There is of course the original x guard as well as the single leg x guard.
The single leg x guard derived from the x guard. Many consider Marcelo Garcia as the father of the x guard. The winner of five brazilian jiu-jitsu world championships and sometimes considered the best pound for pund grappler has also written a book on the subject.
There seems to be rapid trends when coming to guard types in bjj. Everybody wants there own trademark, their sign. Everybody gets crazy youtubing this latest fashion. There is also a war going on between the viewpoint of jiu jitsu as a sport versus self defence everytime a new guards sees the light. Some say that doesn´t work in the streets or in the cage.
Stating that certain types of techniques wont do it for you in real life is a point of view. Likewise the opposite. The thing about brazilian jiu jitsu is it contains lots of live sparring. Martial arts that lacks live sparring probably will be the ones that gets you into trouble when trying to execute what you learned only as non fullcontact.
Well the x guard is nice in a bjj sparring or match when the opponent stands up for example trying to break your closed guard. Heres a breakdown at Dan of the earth
I got some clips from the seminar, please go ahead and look

Hunting Ban Tubeless Untuk Kawasaki Ninja 150 L

Butterfly Guard to X-Guard Setup
Butterfly Guard is a position that I am typically a fish out of water in… yeah yeah yeah, I know… I need to drill more. That’s the answer to everything (really, it actually is).
Anyways, I like how Felipe Cavalcante shows the x-guardsetup for sweeps and…

BJJ notes 7-7-2011
The man is back from vacation. Incredibly, he remembers my face through 6 months of beard and hair changes. He teaches us X-guard entries today.
Be warned: the title of the post should indicate to you that this is more for me to remember than for you to be interested. I'm also fully capable of being wrong in my transcription of techniques.
Uno. We are sitting and they are standing. They refuse to engage their legs with ours, so we grab their wrists. Hopefully their feet are square, and we can hook both their ankles with our feet (from the inside). If so, sweep. You can see Marcelo do this constantly in many of his matches on YouTube. He doesn't always get it, and it doesn't always stick, but it's a constant threat.
If their feet aren't square, hook one ankle from the inside and grab it from the outside with the hand. Scoot in and hit the x-guard or one-leg-x-guard. (Do I have to capitalize it? X-guard?)
X-guard
Top leg extends instead of lifting.
Their knee that's on our shoulder should point to the sky.
Knee of my top leg presses into their near thigh.
Grab their wrist for great justice.
1-Leg-X-Guard
Hips up off the ground, foo'.
Top foot must point outwards, only making contact with the heel, which is on their hip.
Overhook, do not underhook, their ankle. Grab own thigh and squeeze the elbow (like in kesagatame).
Squeeze knees together. Tighter.
Dos. Our opponent is now refusing to engage even with their hands. Sit with one knee up and one knee down, facing their forward leg. Distract them, scoot in and towards their rear leg, hook/kick their front ankle from the inside with your bottom foot, and enter into the X-guard or 1-leg-X-guard as before.
