In order to implement brainfuck with x87 arithmetic you inevitably have to shuffle a bunch of data back and forth between CPU registers, memory, and the FPU registers, because the FPU copro can't do dereferencing.
Well, except you can increment and decrement the FPU register stack pointer at will, so maybe there's a tradeoff here. What kind of programs can you write with eight data cells? Or more like 7, since you need a slot for scratch space. (Or maybe even something like ~56 data cells, if you can pack them into the significand in 80-bit mode...?) Still need to do I/O via main memory though. Or perhaps FP exceptions.
