Xanthomendoza fallax (hooded sunburst lichen)
South of Saskatoon, SK, Canada. May 1, 2023.
Comparing Canadian and French specimens of Xanthomendoza makes me really wonder whether the species descriptions for this genus are accurate at all. Not that it's surprising in lichens tbh.
I’m hoping to be able to take a more informed look at how lichens are doing in Stebbins Cold Canyon after the fire three years ago. To that end, I’ve started drawing some lichens commonly found in chaparral from photo references. The second page shows my drawings of some basic lichen anatomy. #lichen #chaparral #sciart #oakmosslichen #everniaprunastri #sunburstlichen #xanthomendoza #rosettelichen #physcia #soilpaintlichen #acarosporaschleicheri #scalelichen #psora #rockolivelichen #peltula https://www.instagram.com/p/BtO0eVhAXR7/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1lcqbdbzhxoah
