(1) The title here, 'seishonen yuugi' does translate more literally to 'saintly/sacred youths' games'. The saintly part is fairly self explanatory, given Valkyrie's long-standing tradition of divine imagery, but the 'games' part is a bit interesting.

It seems to be most associated with children's games, namely shared ones where people participate in a group. (I guess the best American example would be stuff like Duck Duck Goose, etc.) However, it's also taken on a darker aspect, as I found it sometimes in the description of stories involving 'punishment' games, (in the vein of Battle Royale and such), obviously playing off that childrens games factor.

To really bring the point home, I was wondering also why Yugioh was coming up so much in searches-turns out that is the Yugi part of Yugioh. (Idk if the character Yugi spells it the same, tbh) aka....children's card games. If you've ever touched some of the earlier Season 0 stuff, then you definitely get the idea. As you'll see, this theme does actually come up a couple times in the song.

(2) I'm not exaggerating here, they are quite specifically using the term for the cross used for the crucifixion of Christ. The vow they speak of is likely also the vow of Christ-esque, namely the one where Jesus died out of love for humanity to absolve them of their sins. (source: i grew up Catholic lol)

(3) Here's two possible instances of 'childrens games' imagery. 写し絵 can refer to something akin to a still-life, but can also commonly mean what seems to a traced image that children use for play. Like laying tracing paper over something and drawing along the lines sort of thing. It's an old fashioned way of referring to a 'magic lantern' or photo too.

And the second example bears a lot of resemblance to what I've always known as "Loves me, loves me not". I don't know if I can call it a game, but it usually involves someone trying to see whether their crush loves them by plucking off the petals of a flower one by one, while switching between 'loves me' and 'loves me not'. Whichever you are left with by the last petal is your 'answer'. I did want to note that Mika does say something along the lines of 'in order that' (your fingers) will pluck them out one by one' i added the counting part to match the rhythm and make it a bit more obvious what was probably going on.

(4) A smaller note, but the emphasis of this line and the verb i sthat this 'melody' is being played over and over again, multiple times. It's not just repeating something once over, it's more 'doing the same thing time and time again'.

(5) This is a very interesting line, since it was a bit hard to figure out how to translate. 刺違える, the best I can tell is a verb that means essentially 'to stab each other mutually' or 'to harm yourself in order to bring harm to someone else/the other party'. You know that type of scene in anime where the two characters end up impaling each other after a dramatic showdown? That type of deal.

Now adding 果てん at the end emphasizes bringing something to the end. It is finished, this is the result. Nazuna is emphasizing how this is going to be over now. and the ん ending in classical Japanese in this case, likely is either an invitation, or a very strong indication of personal will.

It's almost like a mix of both, him inviting Shu (because to be honest, it can't be Mika, and I don't really see this term being used for more than 2 people) to end this with them mutually destroying each other, and Nazuna indicating his will to finally 'finish this all' by bringing harm to himself, and thus harming Shu.

I went with indicating will because it makes much more of an impact, but I wanted to express the kind of sentiments that might be hovering around this, especially since this song seems so reflective of ex-Valk as a whole.

I honestly still have more to say about other random details, namely things like how blue roses represent 'impossible dreams' and the amiguity of Mika's role in all this, but its gotten way too long already and I want to cut my losses here. (1). Forgive me for being a theater nerd for a little while, but I wanted to note here that the phrase Shu is using here translates literally to "the king wearing black clothes". Specifically, I want you to pay attention to the term 黒衣.

He uses the こくい reading in the lyrics, which very distinctly does mean black clothes, but what is really important to note is the other reading. Namely, 黒衣 can also be pronounced くろご/ くろこ (if you're a KnB fan like me, you might know where I'm going with this.)

くろご were (and I think still are) traditionally stagehands- or what we call the running crew in modern day-in live kabuki theater who handled things like moving props and backdrops, working lighting, etc. And they were called this because they wear black clothing to blend in with the background. (Backs of pretty much any theater I've ever seen have been black.)

(Fun fact: this is actually where some people theorize the modern day misconception of ninja wearing all black came from-because what better way to hide a stealthy character from the audience than to have them dress as a stagehand?)

So while Shu uses the reading specifically for 'black clothing', I think it's likely this phrase is supposed to carry that double meaning. Especially if you consider Bunraku, or traditional 'puppet theater' in which giant, often fairly realistic puppets are used in place of actors. These puppets are often so large that it takes several people to work with them, and yes, these 'puppetmasters' also wear all black for the same reason.

Looking at Valkyrie's whole aesthetic, and how くろご itself projects an image of someone in theater who is unseen, but 'pulling all the strings'-so to speak-and the way in the MV Mika gestures at him when he sings this line, along with calling himself "king", probably makes this a very intentional implication.

(2). This is less of a translation note and more me trying to explain my thought process on how I translated it. Mika's line is ambiguous as to whether he is referring to someone else or himself as 'an awakening marionette', but I like to think that part of it IS Mika referring to himself.

Considering that he actually moves like a marionette in that part of the MV, Valkyrie's entire thing revolving around him being Shu's 'doll' (regardless of how true it is outside of that), and the line later about 'the grand guignol', it makes sense in the song-I think-that Mika is kind of the one they are talking about.

Plus, the part with the angel-only Mika says the line 'look at me alone', and he has several times before been associated with angels by other characters. It's fitting too, with Shu's 'king dressed in black' imagery.

The chorus too, at first Shu is just singing it, but by the end Mika joins him; I reflected this in the lyrics a little, since again, jp is very ambiguous sometimes when it comes to subjects and plurality. But it gives me the impression in the song about Shu enthralling enchanting a puppet to then draw their audience in with their art.

Hopefully what I said has made sense. Again that's just how I've been looking at it, so you're free to think differently!

(3). "Grand Guignol" here is French for 'giant puppet', which is most likely Mika referring to himself, as stated above. However, I've come across some more interesting theater history here that I think is relevant.

You see, Le Théâtre du Grand-Guignol was also a theater in Paris that opened up in 1897, lasting till a bit after the second World War. It was named after a wooden puppet from something akin to Punch and Judy shows, with acts often containing a lot of social commentary. It then quickly became infamous for its more disturbing, schlocky, and gory productions, heavily based on true crime.

Namely, it was considered possibly one of the first sources of modern day slasher horror, or even just horror productions in general, as it was quite unlike any other theater of its time. It resonated a lot with the public of Paris at the time, as they often portrayed people who were considered 'dregs of society', and blatantly showing off seedier sides of life.

They used a lot of very realistic (for the time) makeup and effects to portray all sorts of horrible injuries and disfigurements, and while subject matter changed under different theater directors, you could find a lot of both comic elements as well as brutal portrayals of the macabre mixed in with each other.

Honestly, it's really fascinating to look into and I do encourage you to look it up on your own time, though viewer discretion is advised; there might not be that many surviving visuals, but I'm not joking about some of the special effects.

Considering that Mika is a self-admitted horror fan, I don't think this is a coincidence. It's influential enough on modern horror/slasher films that often 'Grand guignol' is a term used to refer to any sort of violent, horror-themed art, and consider the precursor to stuff like 'Saw' or 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre'.

Here is Owen's Halloween 2023 SR card story, "His Typical Boredom-Killer", fully translated!

Cain is now two for two of North wizards being Normal to him during this event. And Owen, if you wanted Cain to kneel at your feet like a dog, you could just ask like a normal person.

Owen: Sir Knight. I see you’re finally going to drown yourself.

Cain: Ahh! …. What the hell, Owen? 

Owen: What do you mean, what? Isn’t there something else you should be saying? 

Cain: ...Something else? Uh, don’t just suddenly appear right next to me like that? You kinda scared the hell outta me. 

Owen: …Is that really it? So I guess you’re just sitting around being useless.

Cain: You’re not doing anything either, right? Then come look at the spring here-these things are pretty interesting, especially when they’re floating around.

Cain: The scales reflecting the light like this kinda makes it look like an aurora, don't they?

Owen: …What are you even going on about? These are just some junk thewlis scales-are you a crow rummaging through the trash now? 

Cain: It’s not junk. It’s precious to the villagers here. 

Cain: I dunno if you know this, but if you put a thewlis scale into hot water, it purifies it in a flash. Kinda like the fountain here. 

Cain: So that’s why….the villagers, they said they really wanted to give some to us 'honorable wizards.' 

Owen: Oh, is that how it is? That means you, dear knight, are stealing treasure from this frozen, destitute village, when they already have so little to spare. 

Cain: Do you always have to jump straight to being evil……I was feeling kinda awkward, so I did actually try to refuse at first. 

Cain: But that just made it worse…they started getting anxious and telling me “they’d incur the animosity of wizards.” So I decided to take only as much as we can use in the Sage’s manor. 

Owen: ….Oh, really? 

Owen: Hey, what if I lend you a hand? 

Part 2:

Owen: After all, it’s not every day I go out of my way to offer advice to a crude and tactless knight like you. 

Cain: …..You know, every time you say something like that, nothing good ever happens…

Cain: But what you told me when we were fighting off the vines definitely helped me out.

Cain: You’re the one who brought it up in the first place, so….. Well, there’s no time like the present. Why don’t you tell me the best way to pick up these scales then, Owen? 

Owen: Well, if you insist-show me your way of gathering them, first. 

Cain: Kay. ….. –Gladius Procella– !! 

Cain: ..Alright! I think that did the trick, don’t you? 

Owen: Really?  You didn’t collect even half the number you wanted-I’m not sure how you could miss that many in the first place. 

Owen: Well don’t just stand around, then-get in the water. You’re picking the rest up by hand. 

Cain: By hand? 

Owen: You use magic from your heart. So someone as graceless as you are would never be able to pick up such tiny objects. 

Owen: Since that’s the case, don’t you think picking them up by hand would be far more efficient? 

Cain: Well, yeah…? 

Owen: If you understand me so well, then go on. Why don’t you start with the one right under your nose? There’s one in the shade of those rocks too. 

Cain: Um, here and….over there…..

Owen: Behind you-turn around. Look, the ripples you're causing are making them float away. After you get that one, there’s another over here too. 

Owen: Oh, looks like one drifted over here by my feet. Come on, kneel. Quickly now, before it gets away.

That's Certainly a combination and let me tell you, they do not make each other smarter. It's a bit more messy than I usually like my tls to be, but I had to do this. Hopefully it makes sense bc I was going ??? through half of it.

Murr: Master Saaaaage! It’s the half anniversary-congrats!

Shylock: It is thanks to you that we are able to live our lives safely here in the Manor. 

Cain: So we’re making a special cake just for the occasion! It’s filled with our feelings of gratitude, so please look forward to it?

Owen: Is it really going to come out okay, though? 

Cain: Owen. 

Owen: We are the cream topping group, right? Come on, get to it.

Cain: You say that and I know you’re just gonna steal some off the side as soon as I turn around.

Owen: Ohoho….come now. Instead of worrying about that, why not just get to making it? 

Murr: It’s fresh cream that me and Cain and Shylock made. 

Murr: Do you really wanna eat it that bad? 

Owen: …

Murr: What, wondering if it’s safe?

Owen: Shylock’s a bar owner, right?

Shylock: That is correct.

Owen: You make it. Right now. 

Cain: Slow down; why don’t you try making it yourself?

Cain: I heard how from Nero. It seems pretty simple. 

Cain: 1. Add sugar to milk. 2. Churn it all up. 3. Profit!

Owen: Okay, then do it. 

Murr: Hold on for a moment-I wanna confirm something!

Shylock: What are you doing…adding sugar to milk?

Cain: Only the sugar? You’re not mixing it? 

Murr: Here, try this!!

Owen: Huh?

Murr: What, can’t drink it? 

Owen: Of course I can!

Owen: *gulping noises*

Murr: The verdict?

Owen: It’s good? 

Cain: So you’re all good now? 

Owen: What? You have to mix the sweetened milk. We’re making this for a cake.

Cain: Well, I mean even with just the sponge and jam, it seems tasty enough, and…

Owen: Don’t screw around. Be serious about it.

Cain: Wait, did you just say to get serious? 

Owen: NO.

Murr: Next is….sugar in water! Here, try this!  

Owen: What the-seriously? Gulp, gulp, gulp…..

(1)-Acanthus is a genus of herbs/flowering plants also commonly known as "bear's breeches". Roman and Greek culture often used acanthus leaves in architecture, and the leaves have many different medicinal uses.

It is also seen as a symbol of rebirth, immortality and persistence through hardship, due to its wide habitat and perennial nature.

(2) Hermitage means a place or period of seclusion, often for religious purposes.

(3) An interesting note here is that Mika and Shu are actually using the same verb, よみがえる. Or rather, they are using verbs here that have the exact same reading and almost indistinguishable meanings.

Through some of my research and poking around though, I've found they can have subtle differences.

Both verbs have the meaning 'to be revived, to come back to life' but the version Shu uses, 蘇る, is usually used for living things like a person coming back to life/being resurrected.

However, the version Mika uses, 甦る, while meaning 'to be revived' seems to be used more for figurative concepts or things coming back to life. Like memories being recalled, a 'car coming back to life', or, a doll being repaired.

These lyrics are not a word for word translation, and are an adaptation of the original song's message, made to (pretty much) fit in with the original vocals. Again, it's my interpretation, but I wanted to keep the meaning close to what it was in Jp while coming across as what one would write in an En song.

Feat. Bradley, Cain, and Lennox (reluctantly) going full chuuni

Bradley: Achoo! 

Bradley: Ugh. Finally back at the Sage’s Manor. Now I can just hop on my broom-

Cain: –Gladius Procella–!

Lennox:  –Forsiteo Mieuva–！

Bradley: Watch it! Gotta say it’s not every day I see the two of ya tryin’ to off each other. 

Cain: Bradley!! What are you doing here? 

Cain: Wait, no, back up!! We ain’t killin’ each other!! 

Lennox: I invited Cain to train with me. I thought of having a special session to practice fighting an opponent with magic under the cover of darkness. 

Lennox: We all experienced the raid that night, didn’t we? And I cannot say whether or not such a thing will happen again. Furthermore…

Cain: I was tellin’ Lennox about how we might have to fight “vampires”. 

Bradley: Huh? Vampires? 

Cain: I heard about it from the previous Sage. Far as I could tell, in his world, they were somethin’ like demons. 

Cain: They’re not good with sunlight, and attack humans in  the dark. And then, they suck the human’s blood and bleed them dry. That’s what he told me. 

Lennox: I’d never thought such terrible monsters existed in the Sage’s world…..

Lennox: That gentleman had survived until now, so surely it was a habit to be aware of such dangerous opponents and how to deal with them. Most definitely he had plans set up to ensure his survival. 

Cain: We thought to follow in his footsteps with that. 

Cain: Because…no matter what happens, I want to be able to protect everyone; the Sage as well. 

Bradley: Huh, now I gotcha. That’s the reason for this then. 

Bradley: …So, what about this??  –Adnopotensum–! 

Lennox: …Ngh.?! 

Cain:  …..Gk-! 

Cain: Bradley-why the hell are you attackin’ outta the blue…

Bradley: …..I ain’t Bradley no more. 

Cain + Lennox:  Huh? 

Bradley: Now I am…..that’s right, I’m “The Deadeye of Crimson Blood!”  That’s good enough, right? 

Bradley: Listen up, losers! This is a raid! Your enemy is at yer doorstep-if you don’t stop me here, I’m gonna paint the walls of the Manor red with blood! 

Lennox: …I understand-it is much appreciated. Does this mean you shall be joining us in our training? 

Cain: If you’re willin’ to play the role of villain, then I think it’ll all be worth it. That being the case….

Cain: Then I, “The Knight of Burning Sunlight”, shall be your opponent! 

Lennox: That’s…wait. 

Lennox: Cain, just now you…

Cain: Haha, my bad…He called himself the whole "Deadeye of Crimson Blood” thing! And it was so cool I just wanted to do it too. 

Bradley: Well then, shepherd man. You gonna play along? Give yerself a name? 

Lennox: …..I……………..

Lennox: As the. “Strong-Man Shepherd”. I will intercept you, "Deadeye of Crimson Blood". 

Cain: Yeah! That’s what I’m talkin’ about!  

Bradley: Heh, not bad, not bad. 

Lennox: Y-you think so? I feel like it was far more of a clumsy self-introduction than either of yours…

Cain: …Well, that’s that. Anyway, from now on we’re doin’ this for real-no more pullin’ our punches.  

Cain: You might be a difficult opponent but…the two of us have weathered many battlefields.

Cain: Let’s go, "Deadeye of Crimson Blood"! I will stop you, no matter the cost!! 

Bradley: Haha-gimme everythin' you got!!
