Дыгъэгъазэ (Созрэш) - один из древнейших черкесских праздников, отмечается 22 декабря. Этот праздник связан с зимним Солнцестоянием - когда продолжительность ночи самая длинная.
Digagaze (Sozerash) is one of the most ancient circassian holiday, which is celebrated on the twenty-second of December. This holiday is connected with winter solstice, it means the longest night.
Today of the 22nd of December, we are reminded that we Circassians also HAD an ancient tradition of celebrating the Winter Digheghaze [Winter Solstice]
Our Circassian ancestors believed that the Constellation (Вагъуэбэ) sinks down to Earth, causing it to freeze over, and forcing the Sun(-Goddess) to go back home. On “Digheghaze”, the Constellation begins to depart from Earth, and the Sun begins its return journey, bringing back its warmth. This is the belief regarding the apparent movement of the sun, as it reaches its lowest point in the sky and starts to rise up – a particularly propitious occasion for an agrarian-pastoral society.
