if xavier had not been privy to the knowledge that jax bordeaux and the rest of the fugitive task force were on the way to the field office to assist, he might have been in for a bit of a shock. as it stood, the assistant SAC had been read in as soon as the file had landed on his superior’s desk. jaxon’s expertise was pertinent to the case, having encountered and stopped the assailant previously. personally speaking, if xavier had been locked up for close to a decade, one of his top priorities would be to try and stay out for the rest of his life; not go ahead and partake in what was beginning to look like a large-scale event.
he crossed the bullpen to greet the team joining them as soon as they entered. maintaining professional decorum was important to xavier, thus he liked to think they would be able to put aside their differences— and otherwise history, in order to tackle the matter at hand in the most efficient way possible. there was far too much at stake and his bitterness could lie dormant for another day. as it had done so for several years past. extending his hand out to the other man, he smiled tightly: “ jaxon— always a pleasure. ”
a lie that was no doubt the first of many that would be swapped between them until the crisis was over. which, for the sake of the state, country and citizens, every single person in the office hoped would be soon. at least the two agents would be in agreement on that, if not much else. their approach and methods of working were firmly on opposite ends of the scale but at the core of it, duty came above all else. @droppingpetals | based on
