im very convinced of the theory that humans are the driving force behind the next wave of mass extinction, as nature planned. like a sentient self destruct button.

it's def true that mass extinctions have been a part of the earth's history but in the past none have been preventable in the least--they've all been essentially random, except for this one

we're a single species that, by a freak accident of evolution, have harnessed tools that enable us to demolish everything that doesn't directly benefit us. and i don't think that's in line with any kind of cosmic symmetry, considering we could easily use our tools to preserve the species we're destroying instead

but yeah i find comfort in the fact that once we've killed ourselves and every other living thing here besides single-celled life and fungus, that life will diversify and repopulate the earth in new, incredible ways
