Bought this xbox 360 recently. Manufactured Christmas eve 2008.
Came with all the cables and a controller thankfully. Not that I really need the AV cable, but it's pretty neat. It's a switchable component/composite hybrid. It had a white sticker on it originally which labelled the TV/HDTV, however it was peeling off and was quite unsightly so it's gone now.
The controller was quite dirty so it got a scrub in some soapy water. But the true horror was the battery springs on the bottom.
That had to be desoldered and new ones put in place. The rest is mostly fine, but the left bumper is soft and will have to be replaced but it's working perfectly fine.
The console itself I think must have been left in a garage. It was covered in dust, had to be opened out and dusted.
Afterwards, added some new thermal paste to the chips. Looking quite fresh now.
I also opened up the dvd drive to clean it. It really needed it too.
It also doesn't open easily, often forcing me to apply some extra opening force with a small piece of metal. That and the discs don't read even after cleaning the lens with some isopropyl alcohol. So a new drive belt and laser it is.
The Xbox itself is running the nxe dashboard (2.0.8955.0) and still has some of its old owners left behind including profiles, videos, and some music.
Still not sure if I'll rgh it, but it seems like a reasonable choice since I'll be able to increase the hard drive size and install games directly.
Hopefully with a little bit more work this system will be running and playable for years from now.
