Hojo's labs are no place for a child so small, and who clearly wasn't a child of an employee. (It didn't matter if he was the leading scientist of ShinRa, no one in their right mind working for ShinRa would leave children unsupervised in his labs.) And yet there she was, standing in front of a table of needles, staring at them intently like they'd impart great secrets if she just stared hard enough.

In her hands was a small animal skull, tiny fingers turning it over and over without thought; at the sound of Zack's approach she looked up and over slowly. Despite this, there was no visible reaction to him, no indications she'd even noticed his approach. Almost as if she had no idea he existed at all, nor that he'd gotten so close.

Not until fingers curled around the skull, and a small hand gently offered ed it in his direction, pressing it against his own hand.
