I think the splatoon community would benefit from following in the footsteps of the mlp community. I'm talking in terms of the spontaneously popular 'infection au' trend (which is fans coming up with a variety of infectious-magic-zombie-apocalypse stories); but taking inspiration from more specifically the very funny branch of infection AUs that turn the ponies into Actual Horses or change them into older generation styles In short: splatoon infection AU where the canon-typical cephaloids start turning into xeno type forms, and it becomes a zombie outbreak. OR on the opposite end, xeno cephaloids being terrorized by feral canon-shaped children
