The rain was falling around them in sheets, pelting down against them to make hands and faces slick.
He’d grabbed her hand. They’d laughed in a graveyard and he’d grabbed her hand.
She’d known him for less than a week, they’d laughed in a graveyard and he’d grabbed her hand.
They’d run, slipping on grave dirt, hands gripped tightly together and laughter piercing the air along with the thunder. He’d pulled her through the night like teenagers, and she was giddy with the headiness of it all.
She skidded when they reached the bottom of the knoll, only staying upright with the aid of his arms coming around her, pulling her into him.
She felt so small in his arms, like she had earlier, as he gathered her to him in his motel room, just the silk of her robe between them.
And yet, as he looked down at her, brushed wet strands of hair from her forehead, she felt like the whole galaxy, exploding stars under his gaze, and for a moment she felt all the life in the universe thrum inside of her.
His nose brushed hers as she reached up around his neck, cold fingers playing against the slippery skin at the nape of his neck.
Pillowy lips careened together, the glide of a tongue. A gasp and a sigh. Eyes shut at the bump of foreheads.
‘I...hey,’ he smiled sheepishly, turning away with a ducked head.
‘We should...probably go get dried up. Go visit Billyboy.’
She swallowed, nodded; refused to meet his eyes, ‘yeah. Yeah,’ she slipped into the passenger seat of their rental when he opened the door for her, wiping rain away from her cheeks, along with the blush that was warming them.
