Don’t you think they should have appointed a loyal fan of the show to help with continuity in the making of seasons 10 and 11? It seems like the creators haven’t watched the show in decades. I enjoyed this episode for what it was, though. So far I haven’t thought any season 11 episode was unwatchable...
You know what? I’ve enjoyed S11 for what it was, too. I know I can be cranky and hypercritical, but I really have had a blast this season.
Here are a few things I’ve liked/found compelling/made me think this season:
1.) Mulder scapelling a dude’s throat to save Scully.
2.) Action!Mulder & Scully in This. Reclining on the sofa. Feeling 100% a team in work and life. Bumming cash off Skinner to buy muffins and beer. Mulder referencing their kinky handcuff sex.
3.) Mulder reassuring Scully the scoot in her boot is intact. Scully asking Mulder to hold her. Oh, right, and they had sex - twice. And look: Mulder in the doorway? NEVER FORGET.
4.) Scully crashing my heart confessing her abandonment guilt to William. Seeing William. William talking to his mother. His mother realising she had conversations with her goddamn son. Mulder clinging to a thin thread as events swirl around him.
5.) Mulder throwing a tantrum on the ground. Skinner asking where Reggie was going. Scully wanting to remember everything…just as it was.
6.) Mulder and Scully getting off their personal drama long enough to appreciate Skinner. Skinner falling in a hole. Mulder and Scully buying more muffins (just kidding).
7.) Mulder and Scully getting off their personal devices long enough to appreciate each other. A starring role by a vibrator. A little dating, a little lean, a little hand-holding.
8.) Receiving confirmation children’s TV characters are evil. Mulder acknowledging his “grown” son. Mulder and Scully investigating an old-school X-File in the woods.
9.) Getting to spend eight more hours with characters I love and appreciate in spite or because of how messed up they are.
10.) Receiving solid reinforcement no show will be like The X-Files for me, ever. Being grateful to have it again, at this stage in my life, for good or for bad. It is a ride I don’t regret and would’ve never missed.
