ㅤ ㅤ When the much-needed help finally arrived, Reimi made the most stupid, primary mistake of all. Better days would come for sure, just knowing that other people were out there making her beloved town a little safer took some of the weight off her shoulders. On the other hand, not everything would go well all the time, not when her killer was able to hide in the crowd for a decade and a half. It was only a matter of time before he noticed the strange movement in the streets — a lot of new eyes and ears suddenly attentive to anything wrong that might afflict some girl or young woman in the neighborhood. She did her part in alerting everyone, bringing special attention to the fact that being part of that hunt was life-threatening to say the least. Even so, a tender heart like hers couldn't help but suffer immensely at their first loss. An innocent person died so Kira Yoshikage's secret would be preserved... A death as quick as it was painful, as the expression of deep terror on the victim's face showed her. Her mood dropped horribly after that, not even Arnold was able to bring her any motivation, nor the visitors who came more often than usual to make sure everything was alright. Of course Kasumi was among them, her presence was one of the few remaining certainties. ❝ Thank you, Kasumi. It means a lot, really... Especially coming from you. ❞ Her reassuring words were like a warm summer breeze, touching her skin like a gentle caress. Rather than accepting the mixture of praise and encouragement, she thought it was fair to let the other know a little more of her thoughts. Now that they had a solid confirmation that their mission was extremely dangerous, she didn't want to let anyone go before they knew the truth within her. It was heartbreaking to think that each meeting could be the last one, but being realistic was the best thing she could do at the moment.
ㅤ ㅤ Sitting on the cold concrete floor, her back against one of the walls that surrounded the empty houses, Arnold was lying at her feet in silence. Kasumi was sympathetic enough to sit down right beside her, not showing the slightest annoyance at the ghost alley's lack of comfort. Her Stand was there too, Cold Seep curling up on its user in the same peculiar way as domestic cats — just that cute sight would be enough to make her smile gently on a good day. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst days since her captivity began. ❝ When I look around, it’s kind of difficult to find someone who completely understands me. ❞ For countless reasons, some she didn't even foresee at first. So fascinated by the opportunity to socialize with the living once more, Reimi didn't pay attention to the obvious differences between them. Those noisy but kind-hearted teenagers were babies when she was murdered, wasn't that weird? Considering her birth date, she was supposed to identify more with the adults, but when they were there she felt terribly inadequate. The limbo reserved for those who have already died was pretty real, death was indeed a lonely experience. ❝ Don’t get me wrong, the boys are great. It’s nice to have another girl around, though. A little older, but not too much— ❞ Just like herself, or nearly so. At least there was something relatable when it came to them. And luckily for her, the other's personality was quite compatible with her own. Their communication flowed easily, as if their friendship were old, familiar, and as sure as the sun rising the next day. Her face lifted up a little bit, their gazes locked as she hesitated for a brief moment. ❝ I would want to be like you, if I could grow up at all. ❞ Smart and brave, cool and sassy, the kind who didn't take any crap from anybody, like the amazing big sister she always wanted. Maybe if she had been more like that from the very beginning, Kira would have picked another girl to be his first target.
