"You're in my seat," Steve said in a quiet voice. He had gotten a bowl of soup from the soup kitchen and had been planning on going to have a seat to eat it, but someone was in his normal spot.

He isn't going to say anything. Not one word. He's just going to look at him with righteous disapproval. Bucky knows what he did.
#compassionforweakness#have i told#u lately#that i hate u
what dI D I EV EN DO
why do my pals hate me i doN'T EVEN UNDERSTAND
That's not what I said and you know it.
Of all people to hang around with, Eve chooses Tony over and over. And it’s not like Bucky can’t see the way he looks at Eve—hungry and a little condescending. It makes Bucky’s skin crawl.
This evening, though, he’s had a long day of being poked and prodded and scraped and cultured and interrogated about his habits and all he wants to do is get some peace and quiet, maybe get to spend time with Eve.
Now, mostly, he wants to be alone.
Bucky lets the bag of Chinese takeout drop onto the table. “Nothing. What’s gotten into you? Or should I say ‘who’?”
She doesn't know what caused it, but she can recognize the fight he wants to spit all over her, and damned if she's going to give him the satisfaction. He wants to be in a piss poor mood, fine, but he's not dragging her down into it with him.
"None of your business, if that's how you're going to be about it."
She refuses to let him make her feel guilty or somehow in the wrong for spending time with her friend; refuses even more strongly to let him make her feel cheap somehow, because that's not like him.
Because she understands that, her expression softens just a little.
"You want to tell me what's on your mind?" Even as she says it, she's rising from the couch, ignoring Tony's blatant observation of their conversation.
Respect? I’m just tryin’ to help you out!
Right. That's what you're doing.
