Well this was supposed to be an elfbird community post (I post quite a lot of lore on the elfbird community) but Tumblr betrayed me lol 😂. If you want to enjoy more lore comes to the community! I'll keep that post here.
🌎Scumbags Map post 🌎
So the world of The Scumbags is pretty large. And our two silly guys will travel a lot. Here you'll find an overlook of each region of The Empire as we explore them. I'll update the post when we discover new regions/city/villages in the story.
The Empire 👑
The Empire remains nameless for most of the story. It is an isolated country from the world of The Scumbags, loosely inspired by ancient China (very loosely).
The Empire is the unification of the Yin and Yang kingdoms that were constantly warring against each other in ancient time.
The West 🌳🌾👁️🗨️
Known for its safety (watchtowers) and its farming (rice in particular) it is the most peaceful lands of The Empire. There is not a lot of demons/ghosts thanks to the watchtowers. The harsher West (the northwest and southwest) suffer from harder climates while the midlands are the most soft and warm. The West has a lot less population than other regions because most of the space is taken up by farms and fields, as such there are a lot of small villages and rural areas. The region is known to be quite behind in terms of technological advancement. In fact, there is only one big city, which is also one of the region central point : Moshui City.

👥People : Westerners are known to be broad and tall. They like the simplicity of rural work and are often in tune with nature.

⚔️ Important Sects : The White-Tiger Sect is the most powerful one, gladly titled the ruler of the West. But powers are also rising within the less known sects and the tides might very well shift one day.
📚Legends :
🔥The northwest fire : of mysterious origins this fire ravaged the entire northwest before naturally stopping at the borders. To this day people wonder what caused it.
👹Man-Eater : appearing in the borders of Weiba Village, this demon specifically targeted farmers. Spraying fields in blood. It did a lot of damage to the farming community of the West and ravaged a lot of fields, creating a lot of shortage of food. The West might have broken into famine if the demon wasn't slayed by Lu Huang.
🫥The Missing people of Moshui : 5 people have been missing as of late. Nobody knows who is taking them, but they were all last seen at Moshui City. One of those missing persons was scouted by a minor western Sect before this incident.
🌍Map :
Most of the western villages take the name of the tiger bodyparts. The exception is Moshui who stands out due its size and history.
🏘️Weiba Village (Weiba= Tail) : origin of the Man-Eater, a village of the far/harsher (in the east side of the west) West.
🏘️Yanjing Village (Yanjing= eye) : a humble village living at the foot of Yanjing Mountain. Located in the middle land.
⛰️Yanjing Mountain : home of the White-Tiger Sect. Located in the middle land.
🏙️Moshui City (Moshui = ink) : only city of the West (the city of scholars, created by scholars), home to the region's governor but also one of the watchtowers, both the governor and the keeper are related by blood but hate each other. Located in the harsher southwest the city was created due to the West reputation as an uncultivated land. To refute this reputation, Moshui made a point to honor scholar and allow anyone to write and sell books.
⛏️Mine : in the far west. A good mine producing good pure ores.
🎭Political state : Good enough relationship with the Emperor. Especially through the governor! It was a bit rocky at one point but now it's mostly peaceful. The West is the farm of the Empire, at such its security is of utmost importance. That's why out of the four regions the West is the only one with an information system like the watchtowers. The project was funded and agreed by the imperial court itself.

The South 🔥👘👻
Known for its overwhelming beauty, the South is home to gorgeous landscapes. It takes pride in its beauty and makes it a point of honor by indulging in it. As such, the southern decorative arts and silk trade are very common and famous. The South is very recognized for its beautiful clothes. But also for its beautiful people - men and women alike - they are known as the flowers of the south. This common beauty birth a lot of brothels. Due to its numerous wars, the South is also known for being a ghostly land.

👥People : Southerners are know for their beauty. Nicknamed "flowers of the South" by others, they are recognizbale thanks to their bronzed skin and feline eyes.
🛡️Hero : Paladin of the South (Zhu Ya)
☀️Climate : hot and red dusty / filled with ghosts
⚔️ Important Sects : The region is divided between two sects : the elegant righteous Vermillion-Bird Sect and the corrupted nefarious Mirror-Lake Sect. In terms of power and sheer numbers both those sects rules over the others. Their frequent wars often shape the region's atmosphere.
📚Legends :
💀The beheaded founder : the founder of the Mirror-Lake Sect was betrayed and killed by her own disciple in the midst of the bloodwar. The disciple walked on the battlefield with the severed head of his Master and threw it at the foot of the Vermillion-Bird Sect Leader, thus ending the bloodwar. The disciple was later on crowned as the new Mirror-Lake Sect Leader. The image of him walking leisurely on the battlefield with the severed head of his Master stayed ingraved in everyone's minds.
🧜♀️Lady of the Lake : an ancient powerful entity that was worshipped long ago, now laying forgotten in the abyss of her lake. Her temples are left untouched in the southern wilderness by law of the Emperor.
👻The Temptress : a powerful Village-level ghost that targets cheating married men. It lures them in with its charm and then eats their manhood before ruthlessly killing them.
🔪The Puppet Rebellion : the Shen family was one of the most influential noble family of the South. They were known to be especially corrupt, taxing the common people over ridiculous laws. One night, the common people rebelled. They barged in the Shen's house, and their vassals houses, and dismembered them, parading their limbs on spikes like puppets.
🛡️The birth of the Paladin : During the infamous bloodwar, Zhu Ya fought against two of the Mirror-Lake Sect Abyss Masters and won, killing them. This was her first battlefield, this specific episode skyrocketed her rise, and since then she has been undefeated. This fight is known as the birth of the Paladin to most.
🌍Map :
Most of the southern cities takes the word "hong" (meaning red) in their names.
⛰️Yemen mountain range : a range of ten mountains or so.
⛰️Yemen (wild) mountain : the most savage mountain of the Empire and home of the Vermillion-Bird Sect. Located in midlands, near the red coastline, part of the Yemen range. Named after the range itself because it is the most dangerous of the ten.
⛰️Shanyang (goat) mountain : the littlest mountain of the Yemen range. Named after an Old God that ruled over it, the All-Healing Goat.
⛰️Yin (silver) mountain : one of the Yemen range mountain. Known for being made of white rocks and for its silver cave used for cutterly and swords.
⛰️Lei (thunder) mountain : one of the Yemen range mountain. Known for being victim of thunder, said to be one of Xuanming's lovers.
💧Nushi (lady) lake : nest of the Mirror-Lake Sect and home of the Lady of the Lake. Located in the far south.
🏙️Kouhong City (red lipstick) : gates of the southern midlands, one of the largest southern city. It was funded by a red-lipped woman who wanted to create the most beautiful city of the Empire, now red lipstick is a tradition of Kouhong natives.
🏙️Chaohong City (red nest) : city built at the foot of the Yemen mountain. Currently under the influence and protection of the Vermillion-Bird Sect.
🌊Hong Sea (red) : the southern Sea separating the Empire from another country. Borders the red coastline.
🌿Black fields : once a beautiful meadow, this field was blackened by rot and blood. Located in the midlands, it is the middle ground of both the Vermillion-Bird Sect and the Mirror-Lake Sect. The fields being exactly where those two sect's territory joins, making it a neutral point. Most wars between the two sects begin there.
⚔️Dun Camp (shield) : one of the camp built to surveil and protect the Vermillion-Bird Sect territory after the war was declared. It is lead by two commanders : Master Yun and Master Zhu. It is located between the Yemen Mountain and the red coastline.
🏙️Baohong City (red treasure) : Located around the Harmony river in the southeast, this city is the territory of merchants. Created by the Countess after she seized the Shen's domains, it is less than a decade old.
🎭Political state : The two Great Sects are at each other throats, as such a lot of people decides to migrate in hope of not being caught in the crossfire when tension arise. Some stay behind even despite the danger, knowing they don't have the means to travel so far. The Emperor firmly stay out of the sects buisness, not wanting to make an ennemy out of them.
👑Governor : Countess Chaotuzi, owner of the southeast roads and the Shen's estate/domain.
The East ⛈️📜⚙️
Known for its quiet refined landscape, the East is a calm land that does not like exuberance. The East also prides itself to be the most cultivated region of the Empire. A lot of schools are scattered around the region, open to all those who want to learn. The eastern schools are said to be the best of the Empire and produce each year most of the Emperor officials. The East is also proud of its writing ability (scientific or litterary) most of the Empire's famous authors come from the east. The East is also the most ill-weathered region, it is often subject to floods and other natural disasters.
📜Title : Home of scholars
👥People : Easterners are curious people with ashen skin, they believe in science more than anything.
🛡️Hero : Prophet of the East (Cui Qiming)
⛈️Climate : rainy, fog-filled lands.
⚔️Important Sect : The most powerful and impactful eastern Sect is the Black-Tortoise Sect. Curently none other cna challenge it title of ruler of the East.
📚Legends :
✋The Hand-of-Ruin : the worsening of the floods made an old god emerge in the midlands. People say that this god is odd in many manners and seems to be more monster than human.
🌍Map :
Most of the eastern cities have "wén" (listening/to hear) in their names.
⛰️Yinhan Mountain (silver river/Milky Way) : Han Dongyang birth place, also known as the Home of phoenixes, the last living flock of the Empire.
🏙️ Jìngwén City (quiet listening) : city of the midlands subject to floods. Home to the Cui School.
⛰️ Yuehen mountain (moon scar) : mountain of the midlands shaped like a crescent moon, home of the Black-Tortoise Sect.
🏙️ Wénlìng City (listening to bells) : city of the southeast ruined by the floods. People there used to hang up chimes to warn of storms, the sound was reminiscent of bells.
🏔️ Xuewei mountain (perilous snow) : mountain of the Northeast, facing Yinyan
🎭Political state : The East is quiet compared to other regions. They don't like to mingle with imperial affairs an can be seem as rather closed off. Ironically, most of the imperial court officials comes from the East.
👑Governor : Baron Bìhou
The North ⚔️😷💤
Known for its particularly harsh weather, the North isn't a land of tenderness. There is no big cities there, only small settlements scattered throughought the snowy fields, and the occasional nomadic tribes. Due to its border with a foreign country, the North is fighting quite often, thus producing generations of imperial soldiers within families. It's not rare to see wounds on Northerners. It's also one of the best region when it comes to medicines and everything related to physical health.

👥 People : Northerners are tall and broad in general. They're very friendly and likes to mingle with others, most of them also have scarred bodies.

🌨️ Climate : Harsh cold — snowy fields and blizzards.
⚔️ Important Sects : the territory is divided between the Azure-Dragon Sect and the Night-Valley Sect, but contrary to the South they both do not fight that often and prefer to keep their business private.
📚Legends :
🌙 The madnight : One night ten years ago the founder of the Night-Valley Sect suddenly tried to kill everyone in his Sect. The massacre lasted all night and all day until the ghosts of the killed manifested to take revenge. They shredded the founder until he was unrecgonizable. Ultimately, the Azure-Dragon Sect founder was the one to save the Night-Valley Sect founder in extremis. They both disappeared since then.
💤 The Eversleep disease : a strange disease that appeared suddenly ten years ago all over the region. It targets people randomely no matter their age or gender and make them unable to wake up from their nights. Most people quality this diseases as a "curse".
🌍 Map :
🏠Yuánjiàn Village (fated sword) : a small village located on the borders of the Northeast.
⛺ Drifting-Cloud Market : a nomadic market that moves throughought the region — sell all kinds of different things, illegal or not.
❄️Xiongxing Tundra (ominous star) : a large desert of snow and ice located right in the midlands — know for being extremely dangerous. Home of the Night-Valley Sect.
🏔️Qian mountain range : a range of mountains in the far North that border a foreign country.
🏔️Qianling Mountain (thousands-scale) : one of the mountains of the Qian range and home of the Azure-Dragon Sect.
🎭 Political state : the North is largely focused on keeping the relationship with the bordering foreign country amicable. As such it doesn't really involve itself in imperial affairs.
