Ximena frowned. "You know him?"
Silco had thought he knew Vander, but not well enough. "He was-- It-- We were--" He couldn't seem to push the words out of his mouth.
Ximena, thank all the gods, caught it immediately. She sat up to stare down at him in horror. "Van," she said, and it came out remarkably gently considering the pure rage in her eyes. "You told me his name was Van, and I didn't realize... Mi corazón, I am so sorry, I will find another venue, of course." She threw back the covers and swung her legs over the edge of the bed.
Silco reached out and hooked an arm around her waist to keep her from getting up. "What are you doing?"
"I can make it to the Lanes just about when the bar closes," she said fiercely, "and he will never expect me."
