Maybe Minseok and Jongdae overestimated their abilities to play hosts this Christmas. 🎅🎄🎁
After an intense argument about whose family to go to during Christmas, Minseok and Jongdae decide they'll host their own Christmas dinner. Their holiday break is short and some of the members won't have time to visit home and Jongdae does not want any of them to be alone on Christmas.
So before the snow even begins to stick the morning of Christmas Eve, Minseok has already vacuumed the living room three times and polished the silverware at least four. He scrubs the walls, scrubs the bathroom tiles, triple checks the air fresheners are working, and tries not to think about the fact that the other boys have never visited their shared apartment.
Nervously, he switches his dress tie about 40 times. He can't decide whether the one with the dancing reindeer is too casual for a host, and if the solid red one is too professional for people he considers to be family.
Jongdae, on the other hand, doesn't worry. He knows he could wear a paper bag and Yixing would find a way to compliment him. So instead, he focuses on dinner. He puts too much alcohol in the eggnog, and then spends too much time on the phone with Kyungsoo asking for directions. He asks Kyungsoo if he's baking things at the right temperature, if he's adding enough salt, if it matters whether he mixes basil with peppermint. Kyungsoo gives up on instructions and tells Jongdae he'll just make their meal himself, and that Minseok and Jongdae should worry about dessert.
So maybe Minseok spends two hours delicately decorating his gingerbread men. Maybe he adds buttons to their dress shirts and laces to their shoes, and maybe Jongdae just slathers on some frosting and calls them perfect. And maybe while Jongdae is in the shower, Minseok goes back and salvages the poor gingerbread men by giving them gumdrop eyes and chocolate smiles.
And maybe that night, Minseok offers to pay Kyungsoo for cooking and maybe Jongdae rolls his eyes so far back into his head. Maybe Yixing tells Jongdae he looks dashing from his video call in China and maybe Baekhyun and Chanyeol bring too much vodka.
So maybe the quiet Christmas dinner Minseok thought they were going to have turns into a full-on rager. And maybe Sehun is only wearing boxers and a santa hat, and Jongin fell asleep under the Christmas tree and Minseok is pretty sure Baekhyun and Chanyeol are outside building a snowman with a penis and no one has seen Kyungsoo in the past hour and oh my god. Did anyone even remember to invite Suho?!
And maybe its snowing again and Minseok is exhausted and drunk and finds a spot on the couch that isn't covered in whip cream, and maybe Jongdae comes over with a mug of hot coffee.
"Next year, let's just go to your mom's yeah?" Minseok says, and Jongdae snuggles into his side. And maybe Jongdae pulls a little branch of mistletoe out of his pocket and maybe Minseok can't hide his drunk grin.
And maybe Jongdae kisses him softly, tasting like peppermint and vodka, and maybe he whispers a drowsy "Merry Christmas," before they fall asleep in the middle of the leftover chaos.
