March 2-Washington, DC
Hundreds of students traveled to DC last weekend to show their resistance to the KXL Pipeline, and push President Obama to reject it's permit. Students and young people organized a weekend of resistance starting with a Fossil Fuel divestment convergence and Direct action training on Saturday, and on Sunday, a march from Georgetown University to the White House. Activists stopped at Secretary Kerry's house and left him a message, then continued to Lafayette Park, where speakers from Michigan Coalition Against Tar Sands, Earth Guardians, First Nation indigenous leaders, and more spoke about resistance tar sands and Keystone XL. Following the rousing speeches, 398 people risked arrest by forming a human oil spill and locking themselves to the White House. Ben Thompson speaking at the student rally against the Keystone XL pipeline in DC on March 2nd. His speech blew me away, as did the chant that it inspired: 400 youth yelling "we love you" as we stood chained to the White House fence. This movement is not centered around anger or hatred but is an act of love, and that is the only way we can accomplish real change. #xldissent
The TRUTH about Keystone XL Pipeline --- major media has stayed mostly silent about yesterday's #xldissent rally and the arrest of nearly 400 young people in DC out front of the white house... I was there and it was BEAUTIFUL. There is much work still to do! http://www.flickr.com/photos/xldissent/
We will fight this pipeline because it is RIGHT, because we respect our planet, and our fellow human beings and because we owe it to future generations. Keystone XL is game over for the climate. People over profit! #nokxl

No, Chelsea Clinton was not arrested at #XLDissent yesterday. There's rumors flying around on social media that she was, and people are using an image of a young, blonde college student, saying it was Chelsea. It was not her. Just wanted to clear that up since many people are asking me about it...
