Shigaraki stole his cape and killed him

I saw a post on twitter with xless's description and I jumped on the chance to make something out of it xp

Shigaraki going from having his torn up leather jacket/coat look like a superhero cape in the MLA arc, to then having that iconic read jacket in Heroes Rising, to now stealing X-Less’ red superhero cape after demolishing a building and killing a handful of Pros. Thats what i call character development. I stan.

i’m here again, heartbroken simply over this one panel. 

and here’s why. immediately after this, shig killed x-less and snatched his cape to wrap himself up in it. 

now, obviously, that makes shigaraki the bad guy, right? x-less didn’t deserve to die for simply being here. that’s obvious.

but think about why i can’t help feeling heartbroken for shigaraki. he is cold, and he finds a quick solution because he never experienced the kindness of another person to offer him warmth and comfort..., so he takes care of it himself because this is the only way he knows. he was literally taught to take the things he needs, if need be, with violence because experience taught him not to rely on a helping hand. 

“heroes wear capes to wrap up and protect little girls in pain”  we bring that quote of mirio up a lot in comparison. that’s because there are interesting parallels between tenko and eri. “what if tenko was saved by heroes just how eri was?” but shigaraki isn’t a “victim” to any outsider who experiences him now. he’s an “it” a “thing” a “monster” that needs to be annihilated. that’s why, obviously he will not receive the same kindness. and i am not saying he still wants to be saved. it’s too late for that. 

there is no silver lining, no big takeaway or learning moment from this observation. people including shigaraki’s victims, and shigaraki himself (figuratively)  already lost their lives, that won’t change. it’s just that. it’s a bunch of what if’s.

here are some bg characters i rly enjoy . for no particular reason other than they look fun and i wish we had seen more of them (or hope we will see more of, in the case of miss 2a and the plf advisors)

what if he was lik.e. a villain sympathizer and so shigaraki wakes up and looks at him but x-less doesnt try 2 restrain him and just stares back and shigaraki stares and x-less stares and shgiarkai staares nad xleslkl stares snadn

am i going 2 grow attached to and spend time creating a personality for a background character who only appeared twice before dying just bc theres a safe assumption he gave shigaraki his cape when he mentioned he was cold? ya. maybe.
