This is a slightly modified vintage Japanese kimono jacket designed to offer a roomier fit. The bright and bold golden yellow color on this silk jacket is quite unusual. And the layered design work is fantastic: the silk is a woven jacquard of little overlapping squares that shimmer in the light, and then a layer of mottled, shadowy shibori dye work, and on the surface are long brushstrokes in yellow. Each Japanique Jacket starts out as a vintage michiyuki, which is a narrow jacket with snap closures meant to be worn on top of a kimono. Most vintage michiyuki won't fit larger frames, so we modified the traditional garment slightly (removed the snaps and tacked the panels back to create lapels) to make a roomier, open, flowing jacket that can fit sizes 12-18.
