Anya had never really known what family was. She'd grown up with a German family but they weren't family, they were attempted replacements. She knew from other children that would actually talk to her that family was supposed to be there for you and help you through things. The Baumans did that well enough, they weren't cruel or abusive to her either. They got her treatment for her burn scars and sent her to school and helped with homework. She'd always known they weren't her parents though. One was blonde the other had red hair, Anya had dark hair.
Once she was older it was easy for her to find her lineage, she hadn't really been trying to. They were learning about concentration camps in class and she came across a name she knew.
She had heard that name, she could still hear the sounds of a woman calling for Max and jokes about her being Mrs. Eisenhardt now. She had been little and had always dismissed it, now though she had a lead. She traced the names to the Ukraine, then they diapered. With pictures it was easier to put two and two together. Magneto, the mutant who'd been terrorizing America was her father.
Standing in the train station she felt a little ridiculous. How had she ever thought this was a smart idea. She barely spoke any English, only Ukrainian and German. Now she was running around a foreign country to find a father she'd never met. How did she even expect to find him.
