A Christmas message
This is the first Christmas that my grandmother isn't with us. She died in October, on the night of the 12th to the 13th, and I was in the north of the country getting ready for bed because I had the Japanese pop culture convention the following morning. I only heard the news when they called me the following afternoon, still inside the pavilion, as my family didn't want this to interfere negatively with my sleep and the specific experience of the event, which was decisive in making a journey of over 300 kilometers. I was scheduled to visit my grandparents at the nursing home a day or two after the event, but I didn't make it in time as plans changed so that I had to reschedule transportation to return to the south bank, as my family also wanted to save me the pain of going to the funeral.
I didn't have the chance to see her every year, especially from my late teens onwards, but the memories I have of her are good. Her constant concern for everyone, the meals she prepared… then those Christmas desserts! One of the things I associated with Christmas was her meals. Seeing her gradually lose the memory of her closest relatives always made my heart squeeze. The last time I saw her was last year, and she no longer remembered me or my mother and aunt. I knew it was only a matter of time, but we are never fully prepared when “the” moment arrives.
These last three months have been difficult to manage on an emotional level for this reason, among many others linked to a great wave of bad luck, affecting my artistic productivity and my general well-being. Still, I want to thank everyone who has interacted with me throughout the year, for their words of support and also for the Christmas treats.
I know I've been a lot slower than usual in producing new content given everything that's been going on in my personal life outside the Internet, but I hope to be able to show you new works in the near future! I'd also like to remind you that I accept Ko-Fi donations and there are other ways you can help me.
I wish you all a happy Christmas with your loved ones, enjoy, relax! 🎄 ✨
