Dean opens his eyes and Cas is sitting next to him. Dean studies him, too-big trenchcoat and that stupid blue tie, but just a seven year old like him. Cas smiles sadly at him, like he can see all the way inside Dean. “You’re not real.” Dean knows this fact deep inside him. He feels like he’s been asleep for his whole life and he just woke up. Cas doesn’t say anything, so Dean knows he’s right. Dean would rather go back to sleep if this is what the real world is like. He closes his eyes because then he can pretend that everything is OK. Cas puts his hand on Dean’s shoulder. Dean hates that the weight of it still makes him feel better. He can’t bear this anymore, a life where monsters are real and one killed his mother and his daddy hits him once in awhile when he’s drunk and his only friend in the world is imaginary and Dean has to take care of Sammy because no one else will. “I am so very sorry.” Cas finally speaks and his voice sounds so small because no words will fix this and they both know that.

I've never done something like this before, what should I be prepared for? (Artist)

As an artist, you won’t need to do a thing until November 17th, but here’s a breakdown of what you’ll be up to from then on:

You’ll receive an email on November 17th with a link to view all the submitted fic summaries.

On November 18th, you’ll receive a link to the claim form, where you will be able to make a shortlist of up to three fics, in order of interest. The length of the shortlist may end up being longer if we end up with a lot of fics in the challenge! At this early stage (it’s not quite a day since the DCPF was first announced) it’s difficult to estimate numbers.

Fics will be assigned to artists on a first come, first served basis. If your top pick has already been claimed, you will get your second pick. If that has already been claimed, you will get your third, and so on.

Once you’ve been paired up with your author, you’ll both receive an email from the DCPF mods with the information you each listed in your sign up so you can begin communicating.

Your author should email you their most recent draft now, and you should read it as soon as possible. 

At this stage, you should also figure out if there are any dates that you/your author will be unable to post, and inform us via email by November 22nd.

On November 25th, the posting schedule will go live on the DCPF blog.

From here it’s really up to you. Some artists will make a shortlist of scenes that stand out to them, and confer with their author to choose which to create art for. Others prefer to make that decision entirely on their own. 

Whichever approach you take (and these are not the only ones, so do whatever works for you) it is imperative that you communicate with your author about what you’re planning, and vice versa. For example, if you tell your author early on that you will be drawing a picture of Scene A, but then change your mind to Scene B a week later, you need to let them know asap just in case they have made any changes to that scene. They should keep you up to date, too--it’s a two way street :)

You aren’t obligated to send WIP images to your author, though it is encouraged as it keeps you both in touch and inspired.

There will be a check in for artists on December 30th. You don’t need to submit a draft at this stage unless you want to--just let us know how things are going. This is a month before posting begins, so if you have any concerns this is a good time to let us know so we can sort out a solution.

Art drafts are due on January 25th. You should be very close to finished on your piece by this date.

Posting begins on January 30th! On your posting day, create your art post and submit the link on the final submission form--you and your author will be given a link to this form closer to posting time.

From here, we’ll create a masterpost on the blog leading back to your work, so all that’s left for you to do is wait for the collective “Ooooh!” when everyone sees your lovely art!

We meet again - closed

Cas had to get out of town somehow. It bugged him to leave a case unfinished but he'd heard the Winchesters were here, probably hunting the same thing he was after. He had managed to avoid them for years...didn't even want to see them He was just climbing out of his truck to get back to his motel room when his eyes fell upon a familiar face, staring right at him. Lu- no, not Lucifer. This wasn't his time. The apocalypse had been stopped. This wasn't the devil. This was- "Sam." Cas swallowed. Well, now that was awkward.

What’s your least favorite song?

pfffft idk anything my cousin listens to is usually the rule

What would be the first thing you would do with the money if you won the lottery? 

Take my mom back to South Africa. She used to live there and she's been dying to go back. After that, probably take a road trip, either with someone or just by myself.  

Do you exercise?

Not formally? Like, I don't go to the gym or anything. But I walk everywhere, and I live in a very isolated location with a hellacious terrain, so even going grocery shopping is kind of a workout. 

Would you say you have a good memory?

Aaaaabout some things? Like, as far as studying goes, I have a fantastic memory, but if I'm trying to remember to do things, I'm a total scatterbrain. Oops. 

Do you remember directions better by street names or landmarks?

Both? As far as I'm concerned, streets are landmarks. Don't EVER tell me "north/south/east/west of" when telling me where something is, because I have no sense of direction at all. 

What’s your favorite kind of pet?

That really kind of depends? I mean, I like dogs a lot (i live for big dogs, tbh), but I'd also like to own a cat at some point, and most days the most I'm emotionally capable of caring for is a turtle. 

Do you wash your dishes by hand or in a dishwasher? 

By hand, currently, but when I'm home I load the dishwasher. I think it really depends on the number of people you feed at one time - if it's a lot, like my house, just load all those suckers in the dishwasher and be done. 

Do you live where you were born? 

Nope! I live about 3 states south. I've actually only been back to Billings once, when I was seven. 

If you changed your name, what would you change it to?

I've kicked around taking on a pen name when I start publishing shit, so if I do that, Carson Evans. 

What’s usually your first thought when you wake up? 

Lately? "If Braces McGee (roommate's boyfriend) slept here last night, I'm going to report them to housing." (Spoiler alert: I never do.)

What kind of kid were you?

Well, my mom always says that I was 25 when I turned 5, and my first (and second to last) sleepover happened when I was...12, I think, so what does that tell you.
