Ahhhhh . The joys of a rebuild. WALKERA 350 + GOPRO GIMBLE + REWIRE 🙄 #rabhobbies #walkera #xr350 (at R.A.B. Hobbies)
Who knew an #xr350 had it in it. @mikerbike that's who. (at Little Sahara Sand Dunes)
I just feel like writing tonight. It seems like people liked my personal pictures of my day trip into the mountains, so when I get my new enduro I'll definitely be sure to get more. Right now it's a pain in the ass because I don't have a phone, I just have a tablet. I'm working on trading for something for one, but that's never a sure thing.
The bike I have now is the Little Orange Pig, 1985 XR350R and I have a 13/40 [3.08] gearing set up on it, which is slightly shorter than the stock 14/42 [3.00]. On that particular day trip I had 14/48 [3.43] which was super short. I bought it like that, and really loved it on the trails, but it was pretty shitty for commuting. Before I put the new front sprocket on it I was running the old 14 with the 40 rear [2.86] and it did really well for my 20 mile commute, but in any kind of wind it really suffered. It just couldn't maintain 55mph with a headwind.
With that said, I'd like to talk about what kind of bike I want next. I've always been a Honda fan for the most part, but I've had good experiences with Yamaha too. I won't have a whole lot to spend so I'll be looking for a street legal Honda XR600 or a Yamaha XT600. Both are great bikes from what I've read and from videos on youtube I've seen of them. If I had a bit more to spend I would definitely opt in for the XR650R or XR650L. I actually don't know which one is more suited for mostly highway travel. I do a lot of commuting and only some off road. I'd love to say I spend my life on dirt, but it just isn't true. I'd say I'm around 80/20 split between road and off road use.
If Money really was no object I'd probably get a KTM or BMW adventure bike, above 800cc. I watch hundreds of trail videos every week to get an idea of what I like and it seems like my interests have changed. I want something fast on the street but manageable off road, with the ability to carry cargo. I really love going mountain camping so loading up a bike with gear, and heading out sounds so appealing.
That's what I'm up to tonight.
