I like to get my clips off of youtube, but my vegas doesn't allow me to use any mp4 clips that are HD for some reason. Do you know anything I can use to download in a different format? Thank you so much~

It really depends from where you get the clips! I use KeepVid, and it works fine enough in Vegas 12. There may be an issue with the encoding that Vegas doesn’t like, or you don’t have the codec needed to work with the file. I can’t be sure what’s wrong, but try encoding downloaded files to H264 MP4 format with AnyConverter.

newer versions of any video converter can rip directly from youtube actually.

if all else fails convert to DVD NTSC with the aspect ration under Video settings set to ‘Auto’.

Any version of Vegas 7 & up accepts DVD NTSC MPGs. in fact, Vegas tends to work better with them for some strange reason.

is it okay if I ask you how you did your Sora wig? ;o; ♥ I'm so jealous and it looks so good! (well all of your cosplay looks good) I'm sure you're asked these questions all the time and I'm sorry if I'm just being annoying!!!

haha! aw don’t even worry about it, you are not being annoying at all :) If anything, I am more than happy to help other cosplayers in any way I can. I recently wrote a message with spiking tips to one of my friends, so if you don’t mind I’m just going to copy+paste the relevant stuff for you here!

First off, if it’s going to be a wig that needs REALLY BIG THICK SPIKES (like Sora) I would recommend starting off with a thick base wig and sewing wefts to it in order to create enough volume. If it’s something less gigantic, then you should be ok with just a single base wig :)

(here is a tutorial on how to sew wefts)

You’ll want to grab a pair of scissors (hair cutting scissors are best, but feel free to use whatever you’ve got), a hairdryer (preferably with a cool shot option), heavy-duty hairspray (I use Got2B) and hair gel/glue (I use Aleene’s Tacky Glue). 

Basically what you want to do is separate your wig into parts that you want to spike (use clips, hairties, whatever you have) and arrange them as closely to your references as possible.

Once you’ve done that, you want to trim each section down to a little longer than how far you want your spike to stick out. 

Now comes the actual spiking. Hold the tip of the spike in the direction you want it to stick up and spray the base lightly. Make sure to only use a little bit of product with each spike because saturating the wig hair with spray/glue will make the spike heavy and cause it to droop :(

Once the spray has dried (you can use your hairdryer to dry the hairspray faster), you can continue to lightly spray along the length of the spike until you get to the tip (I use a little more spray at the very tip to help keep the shape). At this point, you should also trim the tip down to however long you need your spike to be (this might require you to have to try the wig on to get a better idea of how it’s coming along) before finishing the point with your glue/gel.

Continue doing this until you’ve gotten all of your spikes all spikey, then finish the whole wig off with another blast of hairspray to keep everything together :D

One last thing—even if it doesn’t turn out the way you like for your first go around, just remember that you can always go back and improve! Exhibit A: here’s a post showing before and after photos of my Sora wig from when I restyled it earlier this year. Just remember to keep giving it your best and put your heart into what you do, and you’ll definitely come out with something to be proud of :)
