oh god damn it. in that moment, in that singular moment in which time felt as if it was beginning to freeze, all she could do was stare down through hardened eyes. her lips pressed together but were soon released in favor of a tightened jaw. gloved hands balled into firm fists, and she averted her gaze, slamming a fist against a thigh.
❛ Oi, ❜ she finally said, looking back down at the blonde. she couldn’t tell if her voice sounded tired, or exasperated, or even angry, but…who was she angry at? ❛ You are not gonna go anywhere, y’hear me? Y’know why? You’re one of the damn toughest shinobi around and you ain’t gonna die — not on my watch. You die with these team of medical ninja, I swear I’ll have their heads. ❜
kurotsuchi couldn’t tell if temari was joking or not, but she remembered quietly that jokes like this didn’t pass from her lips too easily. it was difficult for her to find a friend in anyone, but in temari, she had. kurotsuchi had come to value the other kunoichi, and she had come to respect her, too.
there was a blaze of fury burning in eyes of coal. she took one of temari’s hands into hers, clasping it tightly, though gently all the same.
❛ You listen to me, an’ you better listen well, Temari, ‘cause I won’t repeat myself — I hate repeating myself and you know it. I’m not movin’, you’re not goin’. Don’t you dare close your damn eyes. You better fight, or so help me I’ll kick your ass and drag you down myself. You’re not going like this. Am I clear? ❜
she’s had too many of her own men die. she lost one treasured friend, and she’d finally come to make another, and she wasn’t going to lose them just like that. she didn’t come that far for this. there were other people waiting for temari, too.
her heart couldn’t stop.
What was wrong with going like this? She was dying, that much would be stupid to deny, but she was dying in the line of duty, the way every shinobi should die. She'd fought hard, and in the end she'd been defeated. Sure, Kuro'd saved her, and maybe that meant something, too, but there wasn't anything particularly wrong with dying this way. "I got stabbed," she tells Kurotsuchi as though she hadn't been there for the whole thing, as though she hadn't watched, as though she hadn't seen Temari cough up blood, drop first to one knee, then the second, clutch her abdomen, and finally fall. She was a proud kunoichi. She'd always taken pride in her strength and her diligence, her ruthlessness in battle that was supposed to never lead to anything like this. She remembers vaguely a scream of pain close behind her from the shinobi whom she'd assumed was her assailant. Kuro'd killed him, but too late; he'd already gotten Temari. "So much for attacking and defending in one move," she muttered, eyes unfocusing to look at something past Kuro. Sure, she'd held on long enough to get to the medical ninja, but Temari no longer thought it was a matter of holding on at this point. Who was she to fight fate, destiny? If she was meant to die today, she was going to die today. "Just," Temari spoke again, refocusing on her friend with effort, "just stay with me until I-- If I--" She wasn't sure about tenses anymore. She wasn't sure she could feel her body anymore, which explained her limp hand, the fact that she could barely feel Kuro's. Maybe it was the blood loss. "Don't close my eyes," Temari repeated, "okay."

+5 have been heard.
The raven perched on a tree by his target, cawing out to track their movements. He'd been following them all day, in fact, and just wondered if they payed any mind to the black bird with the one glass eye that cawed so much.
He was told to stay close, after all...

amusement immediately overtook her previously impassive expression. the water she had been drinking was sprayed out of her mouth. her free hand rose to wipe her face as she stared wide-eyed at the blonde. her lips began to curve into a sly grin, quiet chuckles beginning to escape her.
❛ You talkin’ ‘bout who I think you’re talking about? Because..if you are…you’re totally right — hah! ❜
Lips quirk, not least because of the spit water. It was nice to be agreed with. "It applies to many of the idiots men we know," she sighs, "I'm not sure which one in particular I'm referring to." She rests her chin on her hand thoughtfully. "Darui. Naruto. Sasuke. Lee." A shrug. "C could probably do okay, though."
