Des Ark - “Ties”

Des Ark’s Aimée Argote takes songwriting well beyond the norm, weaving highly personal tracks with emotional resonance, specific but relatable.  Her truth emanates unfiltered on Everything Dies, a diverse record that lets on folk assumptions, only to change directions quickly with thick, interconnected rock vibes.  It’s a strong move - focusing on Argote’s lyrics with just an acoustic guitar could wear thin a few songs in, but instead those moments stand out even more reflected against the encroaching dynamics that play on most of the songs throughout Everything Dies.  The saddened mood the title of the record implies is for real - there are plenty of raw, emotional moments, but joyful deviations like “Don Taco and His Hot Sauce Toss” (title bonus points: one million) and “French Fries Are Magical” (one million and one) again add a sense of balance to Des Ark’s perspective and performance.  Des Ark are currently on tour with folk experimenters Saintseneca, an excellent fit that will fill their schedule until mid-February.
