Well we finally got to the end of this god awful X-Terminators mini-series. The gang has seemingly succeeded in closing the portal between Limbo and Earth and blowing the shit out of both S’ym and N’astirh, but unfortunately Taki got caught in the blast and got the shit blown out of himself. I don’t care. I hope he dies. He’s annoying. However over in New Mutants #72, the story continues for a few more pages yet.

Aww look at Rahne with all those cute lil bebes. And I like how Taki’s mutilated body isn’t as splattered all over the concrete in this comic like it was in X-Terminators. Even the continuity editors didn’t give a shit about him. (X-Terminators #4 – Jan 1989 and New Mutants #72 – Feb 1989)

These two comics take place at the exact same time so I’m going to present them alongside each other. It’s a little strange because they are telling the exact same part of the story from the exact same moments in time, differing only slightly in perspective, and they even have the same writer, but the quality of the New Mutants comic is about a million times better than the X-Terminators one. So it turns out that opening the demon portal between Earth and Limbo required both Wiz Kid’s mutant computer to bridge the two realities and Illyana’s stepping disc to actually perform the transportation. Here are the equivalent panels from issue #4 of X-Terminators.

This is some high powered management on the part of N’astirh going on here. It’s like some kind of massively elaborate evil plan is finally coming to pass. Man, I can’t even get my day scheduled out efficiently enough such that I can be on time for work AND pick up groceries on the way home without getting my dick caught in a vending machine. I guess that’s why he’s a magical demon and I’m just a big asshole. (New Mutants #72 - Feb 1989 and X-Terminators #4 – Jan 1989)

In one of the most historic comic book team ups of all time, all these shitty little kids from the X-Terminators and New Mutants join forces to dismantle N’astirh’s demon portal between Limbo and Earth. In case you can’t tell, I’m being sarcastic. The teams do actually succeed in dismantling the portal though, which means that for all the Armageddon like catastrophe that occurs during the Inferno crossover, the main portal to between the two dimensions was only wide open for a few minutes. Here are the equivalent panels from New Mutants #72.

Leech and Artie are able to disrupt the portal between Limbo and Earth by momentarily unplugging the mystical mutant computer that’s bridging the two realities, which frees their X-Terminators teammates, but then N’astirh’s little toady Crotus gets the shit fried out of him plugging the thing back I again and the invasion continues.

At the climax of the X-Terminators mini-series, N’astirh is seemingly able to defeat S’ym by assimilating himself with the techno organic virus and turning this bad-assed shade of red. In doing so, he gains the ability to directly manipulate the computer that controls the portal between Limbo and Earth, but before he can re-open the portal, Wiz Kid is able to stop him.

This seems like it should end the Inferno conflict, since the portal between Earth and Limbo is permanently closed and both S’ym and N’astirth seemingly got the shit blown out of themselves in the process, but I know that can’t possibly be true since I’m only half way through the Inferno omnibus and on the next page S’ym has already regenerated himself and is plotting on taking control of the remaining demon forces already on Earth and continuing the invasion.

Also, I’m confused because yes N’astirh looks a lot more badass in red, but I’m confused because he was red in a single appearance before any of this happened back in and issue of Power Pack when he was still developing his evil plot. Must have been a continuity error. (X-Terminators #4 – Jan 1989)
