The trip to Earth had been a much-needed break. Everyone was tired, but the lot of them had split into small groups and spread across the world to see as much as they could in the two month's leave they had. He'd struck out with Willow- Jim's sister- and together they were in the south of the United States, seeing the sights, which was apparently a festival right now.
So, naturally, they had to go, and buy large amounts of nice things with their saved-up wages from months of being isolated on the Enterprise.
Right now, Scotty was toting a small bag of popcorn, sharing it with Willow. As they approached a booth with a pony tied next to it, chewing on wisps of hay, a small child ran up behind them and smacked straight into his legs.
When Scotty turned in surprise, the kid was still there, round-eyed and a little scared-looking.
"Do you know where my mama is?"
