It all started a year ago, there was an infection. It spread. People changed, died, but didn't. It seemed like all of England was takin over now by the zombies. Amelia was in London at the time, found some people and they started making their way to the edge of Wales. They'd have to go from London (where they started) to St. David's at the bottom tip of Wales, there one of them had a boat, they could cross the water and get to Ireland. It was said to be safe there. Rumor had it that Ireland, since it was an island, the infection hadn't spread there, since it wasn't airborne. It was as if the country had a safe wall around it and would open the doors to those who were clean, infection free.
Amelia could feel the sun leaking through the trees, waking her up. Her eyes fluttered open as she looked around. It was a makeshift camp, but it worked. They'd put up some barbed wire, and attached anything and everything that would make a noise. If any zombies were to run into their little camp circle, they'd heard it.
She yawned as she sat up. Astrid was on lookout duty, and had been since Amelia had gone to sleep 2, maybe 3 hours ago. That was enough sleep for her though.
"It's alright, I'll look out now. Wide awake anyways. Try and get some shut eye before the others wake up." Amelia told her. There wasn't much expression in her face or tone, considering she'd just woken up. But there wasn't much emotion in her as of late anyways.
Amelia had grown up an army brat, same as both of her parents before her, and their parents before them. Her parents meet when the American Army (which her dad was in) and the Welsh Army (which her mom was in) teamed up to help the British Army. They left shortly after they got married. And shortly after that, Amelia was born. She'd grown up knowing how to protect herself and others around her. She was the first person in her family in the last 2 generations to not go into the army. Instead she became a cop. It was the reason why she was in London in the first place, she had gone to try and get a detective job with Scotland Yard. She had gotten the job, but it was only a month later that the infection got so bad that the police station went under. That's when she found them, the group she'd promised to protect.
She taught them everything she could, took as much as she could from Scotland Yard and they started making their way. Amelia had convinced them to stop by Cardiff on their way. The reason she told them was so that they could more weapons, food, and supplies from her home, but the real reason was her family. She just had to know if her mother and father made it.
Amelia took a breath and sighed. Taking her gun from out of her back pocket, she loaded it to have it at the ready. It wasn't the best defensive weapon since it just made too much noise that would just attracted more zombies, but for nighttime/early morning watch it was the best since it would wake everyone up. She took a seat on the ground next to a tree.
A loud crash echoed through the apartment followed by a groan of annoyance. "Oh not again!" She looked down at her ruined white shirt, wishing once again that she had stayed in her own time and universe. Breakfast sat in ruins on the counter because of the exploding coffee maker. "This is the last time I try to make breakfast for her." she mumbled, pulling the now hot fabric off her skin
The loud bang made Amelia wake up, and in a panic at that! She quickly jumped out of the bed and ran into the kitchen. She had picked her gun out of the nightstand drawer and had it at the ready. But when she went into the kitchen, all she saw was Lou covered in coffee.
She smiled to herself at the sight in front of her. She turned the safety on on her gun and set it down. Chuckling softly to herself, she walked over to Lou and handed her a towel. “I can never understand how you’re able to blow up coffee makers.” She teased the other. “That was what, the 3rd one this month!” A smile creeped on her lips when she noticed that the other wasn’t wearing a shirt anymore. She bit her bottom lip to avoid saying anything about it. Lou had been living with her for a while now, but she still didn’t want to push the other into anything she wouldn’t want. So she was friendly, figuring that she could use a friend more than a lover while she was adjusting to her new life there.
