Some "up past my bedtime thinking about Xena (again)" thoughts on The Reckoning:

Xena was going to let them kill her? Because, to her, she deserved it, even though they were mistaken about exactly why?

How much was "you saw what I did to my best friend" a part of this decision?

She was surprised Gabrielle came back. She really thought that fucking up one (1) time is what it would take for Gabrielle to be through with her? Or is it this particular fuckup that is unacceptable in Xena's eyes? Is this the first time we see Xena do something that she thinks is wrong? Is this the first time we see Xena do something that is wrong?

Did Xena immediately recognize in the beginning of the episode that these people were going to kill her, one way or another, and that's why she told her to get away from this place? Because she knew (believed?) nothing good could come from Gabrielle failing to save her and witnessing her killing? Or she just didn't want to risk it? Or she knew Gabrielle would defy her, but knew it was right to at least try? Was she thinking of Callisto? Of Thalassa? Of herself?

There's so much Xena-as-Jesus in this show, and Ares tempting her is a good one. She was choosing her own weird fast and everything.

You can do a lot of deceit by telling people the truth.

I'm now completely preoccupied by the thought of Jesus being a redeemed demon who is trying to atone for past misdeeds. And Satan is his ex boyfriend.
