Penelope’s gaze lifts from her book to land on Eloise, appraising even despite her smile. How much does she know? She has been taking this business of finding out Lady Whistledown quite seriously.  ❝ Have you solved the riddle already, then? ❞

It might, Penelope decided after looking over their wedding plans for the fourth time that afternoon, have been a foolish idea to hurry the event. Not because she was unhappy with the idea. Certainly not! After years of waiting she felt she had almost all of her dreams achieved now, but there was a great deal of work involved in planning such events and very little of that work belonged to the other half of their pair. She clearly hadn’t thought that through when they’d let their desire get the better of them and asked to put on the wedding in only two weeks. But if there was one bright spot, it was the sudden and unexpected arrival of a certain Bridgerton in the Featherington drawing room. She couldn’t help but smile at Colin as he was announced, though she motioned to the papers laid out before her and put on her best chiding tone. “ Finally come to help out, have you? ”

“It’s terribly exciting, don’t you think?” Penelope looked at her dearest friend with a bright gaze, perhaps more excited than was strictly necessary. Unfortunately she hadn’t been present for the nuptuals themselves but it was exciting all the same. “Your sister is a duchess. Surely their balls will be lavish when they return to the ton?”
