Ya'll, they foreshadowed it.
Well tried Augustine, well tried...
Citron said this is Carnet in the movie [MY SWEET LADY] (in English) so, yeah, Carnet is a deliberate shout-out to Audrey Hepburn!
Oh wow...
It worked! And it didn't blow up!
XY028 - Diantha is Veryntha Charmingtha
Long story short this was a pretty solid episode all things considered.
I love how much they kinda played up Scaymore to be some casanova like the fandom has led me to believe, only to have him immediately shut down by Diantha's assistant. I wonder if this Brock-esque trend will continue.
This episode also did a great job of humanizing Diantha, kinda like Cynthia before her. Although she may be the Champion of the entire Kalos region she still enjoys Cake like everyone else, her bond with Gardevoir is also nice, I dont know how she acts in the games, but I like her here.
I admit I was rather disappointed by the battle Ash had with her since it seemed to be the main hook of the episode. But hey, it's still his first time having a legit battle with a Champion (and I guess he didnt outright lose more so the battle was interrupted by TR) and with all the foreshadowing of Mega Evolution and Ash saying he'll face her again one day at the end (that's what I assume anyway, Ash isnt very hard to read).
I was going to make the typical complaint about how TR dragged the episode down like always, but I think that amazing Mega Evolution sequence with that amazing theme playing kinda made up for that. And with Korrina on the horizon, I hope the concept of Mega Evolution affects our characters more directly then just having them be observers.
We saw some more of a proactive Serena when she went to go get the last slice of Cake from the bakery, she even PHYSCIALLY HARMED ASH when he was going to make a move on the cake. That's something new! Bonnie asking the Champion out was something I did not anticipated, this girl's got guts, the old timey 50's filter brought that joke home super well.
OH AND CLEMONT'S INVENTION ACTUALLY WORKED WITH NO NEGATIVE REPERCUSSIONS! CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!?!!??!11
That's all I have to say. Next episode seems to be entirely TR focused..well I guess it could be all right? They dont really have a plot to hijack since it's all about them from the start so I hope to be entertained.
Diantha giving wordless commands for Gardevoir to dodge!
