To me, this scene is why it wasnt that important weather or not Serena had won or lost the race with Grace, because in the end Grace recognized that Serena had a genuine new goal to strive for and she's proud of her because of that. It's a really precious scene and opens the door to one of the more stronger mother/daughter relationships in this series.
