20. What’s their least favourite thing about each other?

Rowan hates how cold and unfriendly Kay can be to anyone he isn’t close with. He knows that it’s his way of protecting himself and others, but he can’t help but feel a sense of annoyance and embarrassment when Kace turns the cold shoulder on people he doesn’t know, or snaps at them out of seemingly nowhere. This was a huge issue between Corey and Kace. The Hufflepuff would not even think about giving Corey, Rowan’s friend, a chance. Eventually the two came to good terms, but it was a long journey.

Kay hates how altruistic Rowan can be. When he told Rowan what he saw in his vision of the forest, he expected Rowan to keep his distance from Kace and take care of himself and his life. Nope! Rowan kept trying to be with Kace, even if it was dangerous, which lead Kace to try and cut off their friendship for the “greater good”, but that didn’t help prevent the vision from becoming a reality, and Rowan’s want to protect Kace ended up in his hospitalisation. Other than that incident, Rowan had always been self-sacrificing to keep others happy, and Kay thinks Rowan should be more selfish once in a while.

32. If one of them were to die, how would the surviving party react?  Who would take it the worst?

If Rowan dies: (y6ch18 compliant here) Kay falls into a huge depression after Rowan dies. He can’t even bring himself to get out of bed most days. He skips out on all of his classes and won’t see his friends. Eventually, Kay leaves Hogwarts entirely, in search for revenge against Rakepick for what she did. All he can think about is taking her out of this world, even if he had to take himself out too. If he went down, she was going with him. Any semblance of a normal life is gone, and he’s just fuelled by anger, spite and grief until his dying breath at the hands of the evil organisation that took Rowan away from him, after he took someone from them.

If Kace dies: (in a fight against R in year 7) Rowan doesn’t believe it at first. When the news reaches him, he can’t believe his lover is actually gone. He refuses to hear it, until he’s seen it for himself. I think when Rowan sees Kace really is dead, he tries to bargain, to come up with any solution as to why that isn’t actually Kace, and the real one must be alive and in hiding. After a while though, he comes to the realisation that he really is dead and gone, and the loneliness hits him like never before. Rowan feels alone, even when he’s not. They wanted to build a life together, and now they couldn’t. Eventually, he would get angry and demanding for change, and would take the reigns of the fight against R, becoming the leader of the group of friends, wanting to make sure that R doesn’t get away with what they did, with what they took from him. But, even still, that loneliness and empty feeling in his chest won’t go away, and Rowan often finds himself being kept up at night, crying for what could have been.
