HI i didnt wanna hijack your post but re: the "any ideas why steven's death being a meaningless bet got to him?" comment you made! i have thoughts on that !! because like. ugsydgdhfgh. we dont see much at all of human steven, but what we do see indicates that he cares most of all about this business. his first complaint is that henry killed customers before steven even seems to care or acknowledge that henry killed CHILDREN. not to say i think steven doesnt care about that fact, given his reaction to realizing the kids are dead in dsaf1, but i do think his main thought even as a person was business. he was characterized by his work, and i almost think he would've been the kind of guy to be like. passive aggressive sticky notes left to employees who didnt clean up well enough. yk? thats headcanon but my point is from the bit we have he clearly defines himself by his work
and he died for his job. he refused to move because he needed to report what henry did, both just from a moral stance and also from a work stance! and that got him shoved in a springlock suit and then killed only to be brought back and still defined by his work, if not even moreso than he was before. and this could be a point of pride if he remembered it, but ultimately... it's pathetic. and i think a part of him knows that after he starts sobering up in the flipside. he committed life and limb to a business that never cared for him beyond what use they could get of him, and for what? at the very least, he can hang onto the idea that he was meaningful because of the good work he did, the fact that he died for what's right --
but henry guns that down. steven only died because he got in the way. he was nothing more than an obstacle to be pushed aside. he didn't die for anything, and nobody truly remembers steven -- they just remember the obnoxious phone-headed fast food manager. steven died for nothing. the company he lived by didn't even blink when he ended up dead.
so what's the point in his soul living on?
