Dying is a Solo by Yael Davids / Available at www.draw-down.com / Designed by #Mevis&VanDeursen / Artist #YaelDavids produces predominantly performance-based work, sometimes involving herself as performer and at other times working with groups. Her oeuvre considers the intersection of personal and political narratives, the collection, and collective heritage, and examines the #body as a site of convergences and conflicts. In Dying is a Solo, Davids (who was born in Israel, and currently lives and works in Amsterdam) positions the reception of her #performances and #installations as a constitute force in her practice. Each performance repeats what has preceded, yet also expands, modifies, and nuances the previous version. Through this practice of perpetually attuning the central components of the work—voice, body and object—a series of augmented repetitions turns into a single composition, a single artwork. Along with several other recent works and performances in Paris, Basel, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, and Rio de Janeiro, this publication presents her assemblage for documenta 14, a new #sculptural work comprising armoured glass made by a factory in Kibbutz Tzuba, where she grew up. Scripts and documentation of the works Ending With Glass, Learning to Imitate in Absentia, Obliterating an Image, as well as The Distance between V and W are included.
