“I can’t believe I let you guilt me into getting ice cream with you.” Jonah rolled eyes, but continued eating the dessert nonetheless. “I do have to say that I have a new appreciation for what you do. Spending even one hour in the hospital is horrible.”

“I have to admit, I love the Jonas Brothers’ new song. I never listened to them when they first formed but I’ve heard their new song a few times. It’s really grown on me.”

“For someone who isn’t working, you seem to be awfully busy.” Jonah had been trying to get in touch with Yael for days to no avail. After their last encounter, he was worried about her. He finally decided to stop by her house to make sure she was doing well – that she wasn’t missing like his mom.

“I was on a run in central park this morning and I saw a child trip and scrap his knee. I didn’t understand why his mom took him to the park at 6:30, but anyway it made me think of you.” He paused for dramatic effect, to let the confusion build. “Because you’re a nurse and you heal people.” Everett smiled at Yael sheepishly. “That was a way better story in my head.”

“It’s just a couple of scratches, nothing to worry about.” She dusted the dirt off of her clothes and smiled at Yael. Having gotten distracted, Abigail tripped over a crack on the sidewalk and fell over. “Really, I’m fine.” The cuts on her hands and knees were already healing.
