Bill Burroughs and Jack Kerouac locked in Mortal Combat with Moroccan dagger versus broomstick clear on the couch – they had to hold still a full second while I steadied camera on back of chair. They’d known each other nine years by then. Bill must’ve said something funny… we were taking snapshots of each other, 206 East 7th street Manhattan, Fall 1953. He was staying with me typing final manuscript of YAGE LETTERS and QUEER, Kerouac & Gregory Corso visited often that season, I had a job as copyboy on the New York world Telegram a newspaper of that day. William Burroughs sitting up in back bedroom waiting for my company, we slept together & worked on Yage Letters and Queer, his Junky’d been printed by  Ace Books’ paperback  that Spring, I’d taken it to friend Carl Solomon, editor, & was working as copyboy on “ New York World Telegram”—”I come home from work 4:45 and we talk until one AM or later, I hardly get enough sleep, can’t think about work seriously, am all hung up in a great psychic marriage with him for the month -- [letter to Neal Cassady September 4, 1953.] Bill’d arrived from South America in August and we both stayed together in my apartment 5 till December — he left for Tangier, I hitched to visit his parents in Palm Beach  Xmas, then went on to Cuba, Mexico, and up to San Francisco first time to stay with Cassadys. Here striped wallpaper, $29.00 a month, 3 room apartment,  206 East 7th Street, Apt 16, Manhattan, Fall 1953.
