A young girl rests in the grass in 1890, her head leaning against a heavy bundle of firewood, her bare feet and closed eyes embodying both exhaustion and innocence in a rural landscape.
Photographed by Alfred Stieglitz, this work titled Weary reflects his early commitment to capturing raw human moments, long before he became a central figure in modern art photography.
Did you know? Alfred Stieglitz (1864–1946) not only pioneered photography as a fine art in America but also promoted European modernists like Picasso and Matisse, as well as his wife, painter Georgia O’Keeffe.

View out my kitchen window August 18, 1984, familiar Manhattan backyard, wet brick-walled Atlantis sea garden's ailanthus (stinkweed Tree of Heaven) boughs waving in rainy breeze, Stuyvesant Town's apartment roof two blocks north on 14th Street -- I focused on the raindrops on the clothesline. Ivar Wigan documents scenes from underground hip-hop and street culture in the American South. Taken throughout multiple cities—predominately in Miami, Atlanta and New Orleans—the images are a defiant celebration of marginalized culture, suffered with a sense of admiration and empathy. The title of the work dedicated to a term from the community, a ‘God’ is a veteran hustler—someone who has either survived the ‘streets’ and/or the complex maze of America’s prison system. This lionization of what might be considered a transgressive community is a central theme of Wigan’s work. 🔥 The uniqueness of "The Gods" has won acclaim and recognition from the British Journal of Photography, Feature Shoot Magazine, i-D Magazine, Hunger Magazine and VICE for documenting a culture that is often misunderstood. 📸 @ivar.wigan © Ivar Wigan / © Little Big Man Gallery @littlebigmangallery #IvarWigan #TheGods #AmericanPhotography #TheStreetIsWatching #YoungLove #ComingOfAge #lovedandposted #📸 🥳🔉 🍕🖕🏿 #Ⓚ #kittesencula 𝖉𝖗𝖆𝖌𝖔𝖕𝖚𝖇𝖑𝖎𝖘𝖍𝖊𝖗.𝖈𝖔𝖒 ᴋɪᴛᴛᴇsᴇɴᴄᴜʟᴀ.ᴄᴏᴍ https://www.instagram.com/p/CZzQbV4taYE/?utm_medium=tumblr

Stare. It is the way to educate your eye, and more. Stare, pry, listen, eavesdrop. Die knowing something. You are not here long.
